Northern Arizona University Yuma Branch Campus National Science Foundation - SEEDS: Supporting Educational Endeavors for Degrees in Science The Northern Arizona University-Yuma Branch Campus has been awarded $600,000 from the National Science Foundation for Scholarships for Science. This grant will support a cohort of ~15 students for two years. Applications will be reviewed on a case by case until all slots have been filled for each year, which will begin Fall 2016. Scholarships will be awarded (based upon need) for up to $10,000 per year. Students can renew the scholarships for a second year based on satisfactory progress and continued funding. In addition, funding is based on nine months of fulltime academic enrollment and all participants will be strongly encouraged to participate in summer internships or jobs and earn additional valuable experience and resources. Students will be selected for scholarships through a competitive application process. A rigorous plan of study will be developed for all students. Participants will attend cohort classes full-time for two years, receiving extra support through a learning community. Beyond the classroom, cohorts will participate in natural history field trips, scientific meetings, job fairs, internships, and research-related activities. Eligible students will have a declared major in Biological Sciences or Environmental Science, demonstrate academic talent and financial need, and are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Those underrepresented in science (women, disabled, Latino, African American, Native American, Pacific Islander) are especially encouraged to apply. In addition, students will need to have successfully completed very specific courses described in the application. For additional information, contact Dr. Francisco Villa at Francisco.Villa@nau.edu or (928) 317-7080. Send completed applications by email, mail, or in-person to Dr. Francisco Villa.
