SCHOOL NEWS Fall is here! Newsletter October 20, 2017 To change the world we must be good to those who cannot repay us. Pope Francis The weather is unpredictable now so please ensure that your child attends school every day with a jacket ready to use when needed. It is very rare that we do not go outside for recess. Arrival and Departure Just a reminder to all: Students should not be dropped off before 8:15am in the morning. Drop-off is between 8:15 and 8:30am. If special circumstances arise please let us know. Supervision begins at 8:15am. School ends at 2:45pm. Please collect your children by 3pm. If you know you will be late a quick call to the office is appreciated. October is Thanksgiving Month We are all being challenged to show our 100% appreciation for our fabulous new school (and parking lot) through a donation giving to complete our campaign. Any amount counts. Teachers are challenging every student in their classes to contribute too. The first class to have 100% participation wins a pizza party. We invite parents to join in and show their appreciation. How amazing would it be for our whole St. Joseph community to have 100% participation, parents, staff and students. Since the poster went out last week we have already had several donations at the front office from members of the community not all directly connected to the school. We are so thankful! FreshGrade St. Joseph school is now live! It has taken a little longer than we were hoping.to organize the technology, but we are now live! Our school is now fully enrolled in FreshGrade which is a digital platform allowing teachers to share with parents their child s activities from the classroom and their work through writing, video and pictures. It can also be used to report on student progress. Teachers are now making themselves familiar with this new platform and once they are comfortable with it you will receive an email inviting you to join in. Once you have logged on you will be able to view posts on your child s page and be able to see some of the things they are doing while at school. Watch for an invitation soon to an information evening for parents about this program.

Pro D Days There is no school on Friday, October 20 th. All staff will be attending various professional development workshops on Friday. Some of the topics are assessment and reporting in the new BC curriculum; developing inquiry based learning and working with students with specific learning needs. There is no school on Friday, October 27 th. Teaching staff will be meeting teachers from the Kamloops diocese and attend sessions all day on Inquiry based learning. The school and school office will be closed. Pumpkin Alley Help decorate our Pumpkin Alley. Students are invited to bring one carved jack o lantern to school on Monday, October 30 th and Tuesday, October 31 st. All entries will be entered into a special draw. Students will bring home their pumpkins at the end of the school day on Tuesday. Halloween Students may come to school dressed in costume on Tuesday, October 31 st or wear their uniform. Some things to remember: Costumes must be appropriate. No evil, gory or negative costumes. No weapons. Faces are not to be covered up. (Face paint is a good option instead). Recess will be outside as usual and students must have appropriate footwear and jackets as they will be going outside. Students may bring up to TWO pieces of candy to school for the remainder of that week. Please remember no nuts. Pizza Days are coming! Support our grade 7 graduating class by participating in our pizza hot lunch program! Go to www.stjoseph.hotlunches.net to order. Deadline is this Monday, Oct. 23 rd. Sorry, no late orders can be accepted. Proceeds go towards our trip to Gardom Lake! Thank you. Please find attached poster.
