VCE Chinese Language, Culture and Society 2018 2021 Oral examination October Examination specifications Overall conditions The examination will be sat at a time and date to be set annually by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). VCAA examination rules will apply. Details of these rules are published annually in the VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook. The examination date, time and location for each student will be made available by the VCAA directly to education providers with students enrolled in VCE Chinese Language, Culture and Society for the year in question in Term 3 as a VASS download. The examination will be marked by a panel appointed by the VCAA. The examination will contribute 15 per cent to the study score. Content The VCE Chinese Language, Culture and Society Study Design 2018 2021 is the document for the development of the examination. Area of study 2 and Area of study 3 in Units 3 and 4 will be examined. All of the key knowledge that underpins Outcomes 2 and 3 in Units 3 and 4, and all of the key skills that underpin Outcome 2 in Units 3 and 4 are examinable. Format The examination will consist of two sections. Section 1 General conversation in Chinese (approximately 7 minutes) This section of the examination will begin with a conversation between the student and the assessors. It will consist of a general conversation about the student s personal world, for example, school and home life, family and friends, leisure and future aspirations. Section 2 Presentation of a visual stimulus in Chinese (8 minutes) In this section of the examination, students will provide a two-minute description of an item they have brought to the examination, such as a picture, a cartoon or an artefact. The item will be related to the prescribed topics of the Chinese Language strand for Unit 3 (leisure, lifestyles, VCAA 2018 January 2018

entertainment) and Unit 4 (youth issues, world of work). Students will then respond in Chinese to a series of simple questions about the item. Criteria Section 1 Conversation Section 1 will be assessed against the following criteria.
