Activities of JBCCI for the period April 2010 March 2011 Annexure-I 1. Last AGM The last AGM-cum-Dinner of JBCCI was held on 30.3.2010 at 6:00 p.m at Lake Shore Hotel and it was presided over by its President Mr. Abdul Haque. Towards the end of the AGM, the Election Commissioner Mr. Manzr-ur-Rahman Ruskin announced the Election Result of the new Board of Directors of JBCCI for the term April 2010- March 2012 as follows :- 1) Mr. Takashi Suzuki, President 2) Mr. Rashed Ahmad Ali, Vice President 3) Mr. Hiroaki Nakamura, Vice President 4) Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain, Secretary General 5) Mr. Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer 6) Mr. Abdul Haque, Director 7) Mr. Toru Hisabayashi, Director 8) Mr. Durand Mehdadur Rahman, Director 9) Mr. Tomomi Kawai, Director 10) Mr. Koji Ono, Director 11) Mr. Nobuhiro Wako, Director 12) Mr. Saiful Islam Shumon, Director The AGM was followed by a humble dinner which was graced by the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Tamotsu Shinotsuka as the Chief Guest along with several other VIP guests. The event received wide publicity in the mass media. 2. Publication of Brochures & Newsletters 1) The new brochures of JBCCI in both English & Japanese were published in April & June 2010 respectively. 2) The newsletter of JBCCI was published on quarterly basis as follows: 21 st Issue : May 2010 22 nd Issue : August 2010 23 rd Issue : November 2010 24 th Issue : February 2011 4. Membership The total valid membership of JBCCI stood at 98 as on 31.3.2011 5.1 Business Delegation to Japan 5. Activities 1) The following members of JBCCI and SHOO-KOO-KAI had the opportunity to join Prime Minister s Business Delegation to Japan on 28 th November 2 nd December 2010 under the banner of FBCCI:- (a) Mr. Abdul Haque, Immediate Past President, JBCCI (b) Mr. Matiur Rahman, Founder President, JBCCI (c) Mr. Takashi Suzuki, President, JBCCI (d) Mr. Rashed Ahmad Ali, Vice President, JBCCI (e) Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain, Secretary General, JBCCI (f) Mr. Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer, JBCCI (g) Mr. M. A. Momen, Founder Director, JBCCI (h) Mr. Toru Hisabayashi, Director, JBCCI (i) Mr. Tomomi Kawai, Director of JBCCI and President of SHOO-KOO-KAI (j) Mr. Koji Ono, Director, JBCCI (k) Mr. Durand Mehdadur Rahman, Director, JBCCI (l) Mr. Saiful Islam Shumon, Director, JBCCI Page # 2 of 8

2) The Delegation attended the Business Seminar and the 16 th Meeting of JBCCEC at Tokyo Kaikan on 29 th November, 2010. Both the events were very successful. In the Business Seminar, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina elaborated on the potential of Bangladesh and invited more & more investments from Japan to Bangladesh. In the JBCCEC Meeting, Finance Minister A. M. A. Muhit reiterated the commitment of Bangladesh in creating a business-friendly and investmentfriendly climate and thereby to strengthen the economic ties between Japan & Bangladesh. 3) On 30 th November, a group of 10 (ten) Delegation Members made a visit to the following three places in Tokyo through the courtesy & efforts of Mr. Takashi Suzuki, Mr. Koji Ono and Mr. Kenji Kawai:- (a) JETRO HQ (b) Showroom of NTT DOCOMO (c) Showroom of Teijin Group. The visit was extremely educative and resulted into a great inspiration. The visit was followed by a Tempura Dinner hosted by Teijin Group. 4) On 1 st December, a group of 3 (three) Delegation Members made a Company Visit to Teijin Group to discuss on the following three specific areas:- (a) Possibility of Manufacturing Car Interior Materials in Bangladesh; (b) Possibility of Manufacturing APIs/ Pharmaceutical Products in Bangladesh; (c) Relocation of any factory from Japan to Bangladesh. The discussions were extremely fruitful with the special attraction of a Lunch Meeting with President Ohyagi of Teijin Limited and President Kitano of N.I. Teijin. Several business potentials were identified immediately and it was decided to go ahead with the follow-up actions through N. I. Teijin Dhaka Office. 5) The Groups recorded deepest gratitude to Mr. A. K. Azad (President of FBCCI and Leader of the Delegation), the JBCCEC Secretariat in Tokyo and all concerned for their kind cooperation in making this visit to Japan a very successful one. 6) A follow up meeting of the above mentioned JBCCI Business Delegation was held at JETRO Dhaka Office on 15.12.2010. At first, the members discussed on the Success & Failure of the visit. Then the follow-up actions to be taken by JBCCI were discussed. The recent embargo proposed by BGMEA to the Govt. for not allowing any further FDI in the RMG sector outside the EPZs was specially discussed at length and finally it was decided that JETRO would take up the matter with the Govt. of Bangladesh as soon as possible. 7) A follow up meeting of the selected members of the Business Delegation on a few specific areas of business potential was held at JETRO Dhaka Office on 19.12.2010 and the members present finally agreed to go ahead with the Feasibility Study for the following two projects : i) Relocation of an Artificial Leather Manufacturing Plant from Japan to Bangladesh. ii) Manufacturing of Car-Seat Fabrics in Bangladesh. 5.2 Seminars and Meetings i) JETRO-JBCCI-BAAS seminar on Quality Control and Inspection of Apparels for the Japanese Market was implemented at Lake Shore Hotel on 7.8.2010 at 4:00-7:00 p.m. with as many as 68 participants. The President of JBCCI and Four companies, namely Pacific Quality Control Co. Ltd., K2 Logistics Bangladesh Ltd., QTEC Dhaka Lab and Konoike-Euro Logistics (Bangladesh) Ltd. presented technical papers in this seminar. Mr. Harumitsu Hida, Charge d Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, was the chief Guest. A Director of BGMEA and a Director of BKMEA were the Special Guests. The event got good coverage in the local mass media. ii) A Delegation of JBCCI and SHOO-KOO-KAI consisting of the following persons made a courtesy call on the newly elected President of FBCCI Mr. A.K. Azad on 8.8.2010 :- 1. Mr. Takashi Suzuki, President, JBCCI 2. Mr. Rashed Ahmad Ali, Vice President, JBCCI 3. Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain, Secretary General, JBCCI 4. 5. Mr. Abdul Haque, Director, JBCCI (also Director, FBCCI) 6. Mr. Toru Hisabayashi, Director, JBCCI 7. Mr. Tomomi Kawai, Directo r, JBCCI (also President, SHOO- KOO-KAI)) 8. Ms. Miki Yamamoto, Embassy of Japan. From the FBCCI side, along with the President, one Vice President and Several Directors were Present. The meeting lasted for almost one hour and very meaningful exchange of opinion took place between the two sides. iii) A 7-member JBCCI delegation headed by its President Mr. Takashi Suzuki had a fruitful Exchange of Opinion Meeting with Dr.Takao Toda, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office on 27.10.2010. iv) The representatives of JBCCI attended on 9.11.2010 a Discussion Meeting of BOI at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel which ended with a lunch. The overall business and investment climate in Bangladesh was the main topic of discussion and the participants made a lot of specific suggestions for improvement. v) The President Mr. Takashi Suzuki, the Vice President Mr. Rashed Ahmad Ali, the Secretary General Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain and the Immediate Past President of JBCCI Mr. Abdul Haque attended a Discussion Meeting with the visiting JITCO Delegation from Japan at Westin Hotel on 28.2.2011 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting was coordinated by Mr. Tetsumi Takahashi of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh. 5.3 Cooperation with the Embassy of Japan and other Organizations i) The following members of JBCCI attended a Dinner hosted by the Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Tamotsu Shinotsuka at his official residence on 27.4.2010:- 1. Mr. Takashi Suzuki, President 2. Mr. Rashed Ahmad Ali, Vice President 3. Mr. Hiroaki Nakamura, Vice President 4. Mr. Matiur Rahman, Former Director ii) The 1 st Coordination Meeting between JBCCI and Shoo-Koo-Kai was held over dinner on 27.5.2010 at 7:15-10:15 pm at Platinum Suites in Banani which was attended by 13 representatives from both the organizations. iii) The President and the Secretary General of JBCCI attended the Signing Ceremony cum Dinner of I.R.Bulb Co.Ltd and Kawamura Electric Inc. Japan on 27.10.2010 at BICC in Dhaka. I. R. Bulb Co. Ltd. has now formally become a business partner of Kawamura Electric for supplying Kawamura -brand Circuit Breakers in Bangladesh. iv)the Directors of JBCCI attended a reception hosted by H.E. the Ambassador of Japan to celebrate the 77 th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty Emperor Akihito on 12.12.2010. v)jbcci extended humble financial cooperation to Bangladesh Ikebana Association (BIA) and JUAAB in organizing the First National Ikebana Contest and Ikebana Demonstration at Lake Shore Hotel in Dhaka on 4.2.2011. 5.4 Congratulatory Messages i) On 9.5.2010, JBCCI sent a congratulatory letter to Mr. Akira Ono, the new Secretary General of JBCCEC in Tokyo. ii) On 23.6.2010, JBCCI sent a congratulatory message to Mr. A.K. Azad, the newly elected President of FBCCI (who is Also a Patron of JBCCI). iii) On 30.8.2010, the President of JBCCI sent hearty Eid Mubarak and Season s Greeting to all Members and Patrons. iv) On 11.10.2010, the President of JBCCI sent a congratulatory Message to NYK Line (Bangladesh) Ltd. On the 125 th Anniversary of the NYK Group. v) On 23.12.2010, a congratulatory message of the President of JBCCI on the 77 th birth anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan was published in the local newspapers under the courtesy of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh. 5.5 Circulars of JETRO, FBCCI & BAAS All circulars received from JETRO & FBCCI on Fairs & Exhibitions and those from BAAS (Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society) on different Training Programs in Japan were duly Forwarded to the Members of JBCCI. 5.6 Farewell Dinner The Board of Directors of JBCCI hosted a humble Farewell Dinner on 19.3.2011 at Khazana Restaurant in honour of the Vice President Mr. Hiroaki Nakamura and the Director Page # 7 of 8

Mr. Toru Hisabayashi who would be leaving Bangladesh Soon on completion of their assignments in this country. Each of them was also given a Crest of Gratitude for their enormous contribution to JBCCI. Dr. AKM Moazzem Hussain 31 March 2011 Director & Secretary General, JBCCI Page # 8 of 8
