SVKM's NMIMS NMIMS was established under the patronage of SVKM in 1981. Based on the recommendations of University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education and Ministry of Human Resource development, NMIMS was granted 'Deemed to be University' status in 2003 and made permanent in 2007 by government of India. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies is amongst the nation's prime centres of educational excellence & research. B.Sc. Economics The program, launched in 2010 in its Mumbai campus, seeks to redefine graduate Economics courses in India, with its unique course content and innovative pedagogy. The course seeks to develop an individual who is capable of being seamlessly integrated into a career in any organization or even as an entrepreneur. It also aims to provide strong fundamentals for post-graduate studies in any part of the world. The strong liberal arts core, helps students to look at opportunities from new perspectives. The emphasis is on the overall development of the student, not only in academics, but also in co-curricular activities. Students gain practical exposure through summer training, which provides an opportunity to develop analytical, quantitative, written and oral communication skills-that are valued by employers. The program also aids in inculcating values, to make the student a more responsible and socially aware citizen. Program Objectives To give students a thorough understanding of Economic concepts and a comprehensive grounding in the analytical methods of Economics. To develop skills in applying methods to a diverse range of problems, both microeconomic and macroeconomic. To be able to analyze and construct complex arguments and to communicate these arguments effectively. To teach students to read, write and think critically. To create an environment where students treat learning as a lifetime process. To adopt a more holistic approach to education with emphasis on development of soft skills, leadership training, personality development and value education. Duration Full time 3 years program spread over six semesters. Admission Admission is strictly on merit. NPAT is the official entrance test for admissions to Undergraduate Degree and Integrated Degree Programs being offered by constituent schools of SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (Deemed to be University) at Mumbai, Bengaluru and Shirpur Campuses. Candidates may enrol online for the NPAT test at centres across the country. Admission will be on the basis of NPAT Merit list. Eligibility Criteria The candidate should have passed 10 +2 exam with Mathematics as compulsory subject in any stream from a recognized board in the first attempt and should have obtained a minimum of 60% marks in the examination. Candidates who have not cleared the 12th standard examination in the first attempt are not eligible for the course. Candidates appearing for the 12th standard exam can also apply, but their admission will be subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria, obtaining the cut-off marks and producing all the necessary documents in original within the stipulated time Those candidates who have passed, or are appearing for the 10+2 examination from a Board or University where Grade Point Average is given, must produce in writing, the equivalent percentage for the GPA obtained, from the Board/ University concerned. It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ascertain whether they possess the necessary and requisite qualification for the admission. NMIMS reserves the right to alter the terms of eligibility without intimation to the applicants. Candidates are advised to confirm eligibility criteria on the website for admission 2016. 4

M.Sc. Economics This is a distinctive Masters Degree course in Economics which is built on the traditional framework and introduces students to modern day economics. This Masters programme in Economics is intellectually demanding and stimulating, designed to give those who aspire to a high-flying analytical career in economics the tools they will need to succeed. Students after this programme will be able to access career opportunities in consulting companies, research centres, government departments, international agencies, or in the financial sector. It is also excellent preparation for a PhD programme. Programme Objectives 1. To give students knowledge in the various fields of Economics and an in-depth understanding of the theoretical and empirical constructs in the field of Economics. 2. To develop the ability to build and test economic models using advanced methods and sophisticated economic tools. 3. To stimulate analytical and critical thinking on the different economic issues. 4. To develop the capabilities of original and independent work, promoting excellence in thought and in action. 5. It will be on the basis of an entrance test conducted by NMIMS, for all eligible candidates. The entrance test will comprise of a written test and a personal interview. Eligibility Criteria 1. Any graduate who has secured 60% or more in graduation. 2. Students who have done a course in Mathematics or Statistics in their undergraduate studies or at the 12th standard. Only those students meeting both of the above criterion will be eligible for the entrance test. 5

Infrastructure Library: NMIMS with its state of the art library has books (more than 41,000) Journals (315), E-journals (more than 5000), databases (14) and technical reports with different search tools for its users. Users can access more than 5000 full text journals from the aggregators like Ebsco and Proquest. Links to various databases like CMIE, Capital Markets, ISI Emerging Markets are also made available through OPAC. Computer Centre: The Computer centre is equipped with personal computers adequately supported by a3mbps shared leased line for Internet connectivity. The entire campus is connected with wi-fi network. Classrooms: The class rooms for the students are spacious, fully air-conditioned, well-equipped with LCD projectors and other amenities required for a better teaching and learning experience. Beyond Class Room Initiatives Workshops Student led workshops on emerging areas in contemporary Economics and varied subjects are conducted, ranging from creative writing, lateral thinking, design thinking etc. Encounters with Experts Students get an opportunity to hear and interact with eminent professors and senior professionals from industry through guest lectures. The school has a unique component of 5% of core papers being taken by industry experts. This helps to bridge the gap between industry and academia. Live Projects Students conduct live projects on contemporary issues such as governance, inclusive education in conjunction with industry. Summer Internship Compulsory summer internships at the end of each year for all students for a minimum period of four weeks. Social Work This is a forum which will help the students touch the lives of others and in the process make a difference to their own. Students help the underprivileged and take on projects on a continuing basis. This helps students become more socially conscious and responsible. 6
