Getting Started This Guide and associated products were funded, in part, through College Career Initiatives Grant funds from Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) in collaboration with Austin Community College (ACC) and Education Service Center Region 13.

Getting Started A statewide task-force of 19 members was established to create a tool to bridge gaps for college and career readiness efforts in Texas schools. The outcome is the Texas College and Career Readiness Profile Planning Guide.

What Does The Profile Planning Guide Do? Assists with implementation of House Bill 5 Creates a Campus Improvement Plan Brings focus and builds upon current college and career readiness efforts Engages all staff for all students Provides the tools and resources to develop a college and career readiness culture

How is the Guide Structured? The Profile Planning Guide outlines six steps:

What is College Readiness? College and career readiness can be defined as the level of preparation necessary for students to enroll and succeed without remediation in entry-level, credit bearing general education courses. What is Career Readiness? Career readiness involves three major skill areas: core academic skills and the ability to apply those skills to concrete situations in order to function in the workplace and in routine daily activities; employability skills (such as critical thinking and responsibility) that are essential in any career area; and technical, job-specific skills related to a specific career pathway. These skills have been emphasized across numerous pieces of research and allow students to enter true career pathways that offer family-sustaining wages and opportunities for advancement. Seven Principles of College and Career Readiness This was based on observations made in 38 schools that graduated a greater-thanexpected proportion of their students who were college career ready.

House Bill 5 is about college and career readiness

House Bill 5 review personal graduation plans with EACH student entering grade nine. a personal graduation plan must identify a program of study that promotes college and workforce readiness and career placement and advancement and facilitates the students transition from secondary to postsecondary education.
