Straightforward Practice Online guide for students Activating your token Go to www.straightforward online.com If you have not activated your token, click on Enter your token details Your token is found in the back of your Student s Book. Enter your unique token and the security letters You will then be prompted to create your profile and password. Accessing your Practice Online www.straightforward online.com Enter your email address here. Enter the password you selected when you activated your token here. Click Login If you have more than one Practice Online course activated, you will need to select the course you want to open from the list.
Your Practice online course When you enter on a course, you will arrive at the course overview page. This page shows information about the course, your progress and your scores so far. Course title and description Current average score for all resources completed. List of items in your course. The progress bar indicates how much of the course you have completed for each item. Hover over the square to see the type of exercise and title. The progress box is green if you have completed the exercise and red if you have not. You can repeat exercises. Your average score for the resources completed in each item. Your class Your teacher can invite you to join a class. If you join a class, your teacher can view your progress and scores. Your teacher will tell you the password you need to join a class. Then, from your home page: 1. Click Join a class
2. Enter the password your teacher gave you. 3. Click Submit Doing an exercise There are 2 ways to open an exercise. 1. Click on the progress box for that exercise on the home page. Or 2. Click on the name of the item to open a list of resources and then click on the resource title. Completing a Listening Activity Click here to listen to each clip Click Read to open the text.
Completing reading activities Click the blue bar to drag the box around. Close the text. Print the text. Submitting answers When you have finished an exercise click Submit. Drag to make the text box bigger. A results box will appear with your score. Click here to try the exercise again. Click here to see the answers. Viewing your answers Indicates the answer you gave was correct. Indicates the answer you gave was incorrect. To see the correct answer hover the mouse pointer over the red cross.
Your scores Course scores First: An average of your first attempts Latest: An average of your most recent attempts. Highest: An average of your highest marks. Exercise score First: Your result the first time you completed the exercise. Latest: Your result the last time you completed the exercise. Highest: The best mark you have achieved for that exercise. Attempts: The number of times you have completed the exercise. Your messages You can use Practice Online to send messages to your teacher. To access your messages click on the envelope in the top right corner. If you have any unread messages a number will appear next to the icon indicating how many. Click New to create a new message Double click on a message title to read it. To choose a recipient, click on Add and select the teacher you would like to contact. Write a subject, a message and click on Send.
The dictionary In your Practice Online you have full access to the Macmillan English Dictionary Online. To access it click on Dictionary at the top of your screen. Write your entry in the search box at the top left of the page and click Go. If there is more than one result, click on the word you require. You will see the definition, an example sentence, and have the option to listen to American and British pronunciation. Some entry results have clickable images. Some entry results will display orange boxes that contain extra information like collocations, synonyms and false friends.
