NAME: GRADE: STAR OF THE SEA CATHOLIC SCHOOL April 5 th, 2018 Dear Track & Field Parents, Our 2018Track & Field Season is starting soon and we are so excited that your child has chosen to participate on this year s team. The Track & Field Team is the largest team sport in our school. Track & Field requires a phenomenal number of dedicated Teacher and Parent Coaches and most especially, committed athletes. A team is successful because all members make a commitment to attend all practises and work together with a true spirit of the Star s 3 R s. Significant hours have been invested by our Coaches to ensure good communication about the multiple Meet opportunities that will be experienced by our student athletes. Attached with this letter is a comprehensive outline about the season, a Parent/ Athlete Commitment Form and the Meet Permission Form. Please ensure that you read all information carefully and most specifically, submit the PERMISSION form by April 9th. Thank you for your support throughout the season and we look forward to seeing you at the Meets. April 5th, 2018 Track and Field is open to all students in Grades 3 7. It provides an opportunity for your child to experience track (running) and field (jumping and throwing) individual and team events. It s a busy, but rewarding season. Last year s 3rd PLACE trophy was because of the unending dedication of students, school staff and many, many parents! PARENT SUPPORT Parents are an important part of our team s success! Parents are needed to measure, record, run with students and to ensure overall safety at practices and meets. Please join us! PRACTISES For the safety and supervision of the team, practices are organized by event and by grade. Attendance at practices is essential to develop skill, conditioning & teamwork for relays. Regular attendance at practices will be considered for your child to be eligible to attend meets. If your child is unable to attend a practice please email Ms. Gaspar (dgaspar@starofthesea.ca) TRACK & LONG JUMP practices are held at South Surrey Track 7:45 am - 8:45 am. Parents must plan to transport/carpool your athlete back to school at 8:45 am. THROWING EVENTS - Please refer to schedule, most practices are at the school \ HIGH JUMP- held at the school at lunch hour in the gym. Please see the attached APRIL CALENDAR for practice info (changes may occur) MEETS: FRIDAY April 27 th ~ Holy Cross Meet arrive at Holy Cross @ 9:00am MONDAY April 30 th ~ 1500m meet @ Track 1:30 pm start MONDAY May 7 th ~ Star of the Sea Meet @ Track WEDNESDAY May 16 th ~ Cloverdale Catholic Mini Meet Gr. 2, 3 & 4 only **WED May 30th & June 6 th CISVA CHAMPIONSHIP MEET @ Swangard Stadium, Bby The CISVA Meet is very competitive. Throughout the season, athletes results are recorded. Teacher Teacher Coaches put careful thought and consideration into placing athletes in specific events, based on CISVA standards for this Championship Meet as only 1 CHILD PER EVENT is permitted for the CISVA MEET. If your child is selected for this meet he/she will receive notification in mid-may. A serious commitment must be made for this meet.

STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ARRANGE RIDES TO/FROM A MEET ON THE DAY OF A MEET. *The middle of May (date TBA) only students that have been selected for the CISVA meet (based on performance and attendance at practices) will continue coming to practices. TRACK MEET Details: ~ Each Grade is assigned a Staff Member, with whom they must SIGN IN and OUT ~ Event start times are approximates EVENTS RUN EARLY! Please leave early for traffic delays and plan to have your athlete at their event 30 60 minutes early! ~ We sit together in the stands and cheer on our teammates please keep the stands tidy! ~ Athletes must be supervised by an adult when leaving the stands ~ Athletes MUST WEAR yellow gym t-shirt & blue school shorts for all meets & track suits ~ Be prepared for all weather conditions: extra clothing, hats, sun screen, rain gear etc ~ FOOD: Athletes should bring nutritious food and drinks to eat throughout the day ~ Running events are at the same time as field events- check in at a FIELD event FIRST then leave for your race and return to the field event. PARENT COMMITTMENT I understand it is my responsibility to have my child at practice at 7:45 a.m. at South Surrey Athletic Park I will pick up my child at the track at 8:45 a.m. (or they will car-pool) to be driven to school for 8:55. *ALL RIDES must be pre-arranged* I will email Ms. Gaspar if my child is unable to make a practice.
