RESULTS 2013 Queensland Invitational School Orienteering Chaionships hosted by Orienteering Queensland

Darling Downs again dominates the QSO Chaionships The Darling Downs team was again too strong for the rest of the opposition and retained the ASOC Shield but the coetition for Chaion School was very close, with St Ursula s winning over Toowoomba Grammar. It was exciting to see Harlin State School, with a total enrolment of only 41 students, take 3 rd place. The numbers were up this year, boosted mainly by the enthusiastic team from the South Burnett. The country areas are putting out the challenge. Next year will tell whether the metropolitan areas can respond. One of the highlights of the carnival was the large number of teams in the M/W13 relay events. If their enthusiasm is anything to go by, the future is looking promising. The standard in the Junior coetition remains very high, and it was encouraging to see how much the depth of the seniors has increased. This year s state team definitely has the potential to keep Queesland in the top placings at the Australian Schools Chaionships in Canberra. Special thanks to Sam Anderson and Alison Burrill, members of the 2012 Qld team, for their great courses in the Individual and Sprint events, and to Wim de Jong for the relay. Thanks to Felicity Crosato and Eric Andrews for the Koojarawon map, and to Rob Simson for updates to the Woodlands map, and Felicity Crosato for updating Perseverance Dam. We would like to acknowledge the support of the Toowoomba Regional Council, Lake Perseverance Recreation Centre, Highfields State School, Koojarawon Lutheran Ca, The Chocolate Cottage and Qld Parks and Wildlife Service for the use of the 3 maps.
