MANUKAU INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY WOMEN IN TRADES TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP 2018
PURPOSE To support a female trainee to undertake a level 3 trade qualification through Manukau Institute (MIT) of Technology in preparation for an apprenticeship in industry. REGULATIONS Three scholarships will be granted for study in Semester 2, 2018. Applications must be received by Friday 6 July 2018. Criteria for this award: a) female; b) New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents; c) Enrolled in full time study in 2018, in a Level 3 trade qualification at Manukau Institute of Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Trades. d) Are not eligible for the Labour Government First Year Free funding, Youth Guarantee (YG) funding or Maori Pasifika Trades Training scholarships (MPTT). SELECTION PROCESS In making this award, the selection committee will consider: a) the applicant s ability to complete the course; b) the applicant s availability to undertake work experience in industry during days not at Manukau Institute of Technology and during semester breaks; c) the applicant s desire and suitability to work in the trades industry. SCHOLARSHIP PROVISIONS 1. The MIT Women in Trades (WIT) Training Scholarship is for the reimbursement of course fees on the successful completion of your course and the provision of PPE (personal protection equipment) gear and basic tools required for your trade study. 2. The reimbursement of course fees will be paid in instalments as the qualification is undertaken. A minimum of 85% attendance is required as well as successful completion of course required work. 3. The recipient will (with support from MIT) actively seek and undertake work experience in industry during their days off from study and semester breaks from MIT to supplement their studies. 4. At the successful completion of their qualification the recipient, will be supported to attain a fulltime apprenticeship in their chosen field of study. PROCESS Each applicant for this award must complete and return the application form, together with: 1. evidence of acceptance or enrolment to an MIT L3 trades course; 2. a certified copy* of academic results from current courses and any previous study; 3. a brief outline of future career aspirations; 4. contact information for 2 referees or two written references from referees. 5. a certified copy* of evidence of status as a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident (not Driver Licence) * Certified copy means a copy of the original certified as true by an appropriate authority (for example, Academic Registrar, Head of Department, Solicitor, or Justice of the Peace). APPLICATION PROCESS 1. Complete and return the application form and supporting documents by Friday 6 July 2018. 2. MIT will review completed applications and shortlist applications by Friday 20 July 2018. 3. Short listed applicants may be required to undertake an interview, and potentially a site visit, with the MIT team in the week starting Monday 16 July 2018. 4. Scholarship recipients will be informed by phone and email in the week of 20 July 2018.
