Parent/Guardian Signature: Date: / /2018 Parent/Guardian Phone: Watkins Mill High School Advanced Placement 2017-2018 Online Registration and Payment- Option#3 Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Watkins Mill High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school classes, saving a significant amount on tuition. For the 2017-2018 AP exams, students at Watkins Mill High School will have the option of registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed on any computer with internet access. If registering and paying online, each AP exam costs $94.00. Watkins Mill High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students requiring financial assistance should contact Ms. McQuaid in the counseling office by the Friday March 16 th, 2018 registration deadline. Online exam registration will begin on Friday February 16th, 2018 at 8:00 AM and end on Friday March 16th, 2018 at 11:59 PM. In order to register, students should click on the link provided on the school website or visit https://osp.osmsinc.com/montgomerymd/default.aspx to register. To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered. Watkins Mill High School is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to ensure timely receipt of payment. Here are the important dates for the registration process: Friday February 16th, 2018 at 8:00 AM - Registration Begins Friday March 16th, 2018 at 11:59 PM - Registration Ends Monday March 26th, 2018 at 11:59 PM - Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered.

Please contact Ms. Michelle McQuaid at Michelle_V_McQuaid@mcpsmd.org if you would like to register for an exam not listed or have any questions. WHY SHOULD I TAKE AP EXAMS? 1. All students enrolled in an AP course must take an AP exam. 2. Taking the exam lets you know how well you did compared to students all over the country. 3. Taking the exam is excellent preparation for what you will encounter when taking exams in college. 4. Taking the exam gives you a sense of accomplishment-you worked hard all year and you can see that it paid off when you take the exam! Accepting this personal challenge shows your willingness to push yourself and emphasizes your commitment to academic excellence. 5. Taking the exam can earn you college credit! Most universities accept exam scores of 3, 4 or 5 for credit. 6. Earning credit now provides potential savings and allows you to take advantage of available courses at universities, potentially leading to the ability to double major, pursue an internship, travel abroad, or take a course to fulfill an interest. 7. Those who take AP exams are exempt from a final exam in those courses. There will however be some sort of culminating activity due after the exam period (and before school ends), but you will not have to sit for a formal final exam. NOTE: Those who do not take AP exams will have to take a final exam and will also be responsible for any culminating activity that the students who took the AP exams are completing, in addition to continuing work in class in preparation for the final exams.

8. The workload for those students who take AP exams is considerably lighter after the exam period is over. The workload for students who do not take AP exams remains constant until final exams. Attendance Procedures for AP/IB Exams (1) Students who take an AP Exam on any given day are excused from all regular classes here at Watkins Mill HS on that particular day only. The WMHS Attendance Office will be notified of the students taking AP Exams each test date all students sitting for the AP Exams will be marked present (excused from his/her regular classes) if he/she is present for the AP Exam. (2) If a student becomes ill and cannot attend an exam he/she should call the WMHS Attendance Office (301-840-3989) to report the illness. Additionally, any student that is unable to sit for an AP Exam due to illness MUST call Ms. McQuaid (301-284-4420) as well. (3) If students are in WMHS during instructional hours on a day for which they are scheduled for an AP Exam, they will be expected to attend all regularly scheduled classes. Students MAY NOT plan to spend the day in the Media Center studying. Anyone planning to miss classes to prepare for an AM or PM exam must do so offcampus and make arrangements for reliable transportation to and from the AP Exam sessions. NOTE: WMHS will NOT provide transportation for students to or from the AP Exams sessions. (4) Reporting times for AP Exams are listed on the AP Testing Schedule. Morning testingreport by 7:30 AM, afternoon testing- report at 11:30 AM. (5) Students should not ask to leave early from any session regardless if they finish the exam early. Students who are involved in extracurricular activities or have other responsibilities outside of school, are responsible for informing sponsors, coaches, employers and others and should make arrangements accordingly.

(6) AP Exams may run past STEP; however, students who qualify for free/reduced meals may be able to receive lunch upon request. Please see Ms. McQuaid at least two (2) school days BEFORE your anticipated AP Exam date(s) if you wish to exercise this option.
