PreK PreKindergarten For Language Arts, daily read-aloud and discussion in the early years builds awareness of story structure and comprehension skills. Our Science curriculum creates valuable opportunities for observing, discovering, predicting, and questioning. Manipulatives are a valuable part of our Math program and help our students move from the concrete to the pictorial to the abstract. Songs, stories, and art projects encourage children to develop an appreciation for national, cultural, and religious diversity in the world around them. indergarten Kindergarten By using a variety of learning modalities (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses) and a comprehensive word study program, our Kindergarten students develop and strengthen reading skills. Sight word vocabulary builds throughout the year and students create short films to create an animated Word Wall. Our trusted and strong math curriculum, the Singapore Math Program, is supported with hands-on activities and manipulatives. In our youngest grades, we emphasize teaching children to view the world through a variety of perspectives, to see the diversity in oneself and others and to understand their role as a member of a community. Grade 1 Grade 1 Dynamic programs are used to enhance and strengthen spelling and vocabulary development. The approach includes hands-on activities and games for students to practice and solidify skills. Reading and related components of language arts are taught through whole class and small group instruction. Matt 1 Math is cool! We learn all about numbers and place value and get to play games that teach us things. I also really like learning about the planets and insects and even get to touch real bugs!
Grade 2 Grade 2 Dinosaurs, the life cycle of plants and animals, endangered species and biomes, and marine biology are some of the Science units studied, and the units are integrated with Computer Science and Digital Applications. Independent and collaborative Math projects explore different mathematical concepts and develop analytical thinking and problem solving. Students begin independently to articulate ideas in complex sentences and stories, and they refine their understanding of the writing process through drafting, editing, and producing final pieces. Grade 4 Grade 4 An increased emphasis on vocabulary, grammar, and complex sentence structure gives our growing writers the skills they need to create thoughtful, analytical, and organized writing pieces. Students automate math facts and synthesize skills in order successfully to apply them to more complex math processes. Grade 5 Grade 5 Students uncover deeper meaning and hidden messages in literature by drawing upon personal experiences, other texts, and the world around them. Students learn the importance of research and organizational skills, collaboration, and time management as they undertake report writing and long-term projects. Study of current events and weekly periodicals allow children to become well informed citizens who understand local, national, and global events that shape the world. By the end of Lower School, students are exposed to a wide variety of art media, techniques, principles, and traditions, increasing their confidence and ability to express ideas visually.
