Overview This guide is designed to provide a brief description of the elearning courses offered by the NextGen Learning Center. elearning provides a self-directed, web-based learning environment that allows users to take courses at their own pace. The purpose of the elearning courses is to introduce users to the NextGen applications. They are designed to provide a basic level of understanding on how to set up and use the Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Enterprise Practice Management (EPM) applications, and are intended as precursors to instructor-led System Configuration Training, Definition Workshop Training and Core Group Training. Presentation elearning content is presented in courses that are often grouped into curricula and education plans. A course is a unit of instruction on a particular topic. Most courses focus on one main topic, and will take approximately 15-45 minutes to complete. Once you have finished a course, you can refer back to it at any time by going to the My Courses Completed page of your elearning account. In the Learning Center, a course is represented by a red book. A curriculum is a grouping of one or more courses related to a larger, more general subject area. In the Learning Center, a curriculum is represented by a red book with a blue band. An education plan is a grouping of several curricula that apply to a particular role or job function, such as System Configuration Training or Biller. In the Learning Center, an education plan is represented by a red book with a blue band inside a yellow box. Searching This Guide To search for a specific course or topic, hit Ctrl+f on your keyboard to bring up a search box. Type a keyword or part of the course name, and then hit Enter. If Adobe Acrobat is able to locate the search criteria, it will highlight it on your screen. To scroll through all of the instances of the criteria, hit Enter on your keyboard. Continuing Medical Education NextGen Healthcare is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. NextGen Healthcare designates each CME activity for credit in category 1 of the AMA s Physician s Recognition Award system. Activities are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit, and the physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. Overview of NextGen Practice Management System Configuration Training EPM SCT 5.6 Education Plan Guide The EPM SCT Overview education plan will provide you with an overview of the setup for the EPM application. It is suitable for clients who have only purchased the EPM application and will be doing the setup of the application. This education plan is required for anyone attending the EPM SCT classroom training session. If you purchased EHR in addition to EPM, please refer to the System Configuration Training (SCT) education plan. The estimated time to complete this education plan is 8 hours.. v5.6 Introduction to the EPM This course will teach you to identify the important features and functionalities of the NextGen EPM application and help you to understand application s key role in billing and collections workflow cycle. Describe the NextGen EPM (Enterprise Practice Management) application and some of its advantages. List the main steps in NextGen Medical Billing process. Practice the NextGen billing process in a simulated environment. Identify some of the main features of the EPM application. Explain how NextGen manages EPM s database. v5.6 Overview of File Maintenance This course will teach you how to access and use File Maintenance application and how it is used to setup and maintain other NextGen applications. Describe the main purposes of the File Maintenance application. Access the File Maintenance application. Identify the main features of the File Maintenance application. Describe the Code Tables, Master List, Master Files, and Libraries and their main functions. Customize your NextGen applications by setting up the data in the File Maintenance application. v5.6 Determining and Assigning Organizational Levels This course covers the issues you need to explore to determine the NextGen hierarchical setup for your organization. Identify the hierarchical order of NextGen organizational levels. Decide at which level to share your patient data. Label each level of your organization using NextGen terminology to a patient. v5.6 Enterprise Preferences This course covers how to set up your enterprise level NextGen preferences. Set Enterprise General Preference options. Add Client Defined fields to the Enterprise Practice Management (EPM) application. Understand how stored procedures are created and then attached to your checkout AutoFlow process in the EPM application. Enable the fields that are necessary for UDS reporting. Set enterprise-wide Image Control System (ICS) options (if purchased). v5.6 Creating a Fee Ticket This course covers how to create a fee ticket body and embed it into the Enterprise Practice Management (EPM) application. List the components of a NextGen Fee Ticket. Identify and collect the information needed to set up a fee ticket. Create the body of a fee ticket using Microsoft Excel template. Convert the template to an acceptable file format. v5.6 Overview of System Security This course will teach you how NextGen practices and maintains various measures to secure its system from any potential threats. Review the key strategies followed by NextGen to secure the system. Define the concepts of User and User Groups. Explain the organizational hierarchy and its significance. Manage and secure the NextGen system by user identification, authentication and authorization process. Utilize NextGen s various features to strengthen system security. v5.6 Overview of the Payers System Master File This course is intended to familiarize the user with the basics of the Payers Master File. Define a Payer as it applies to NextGen applications. State the uses of the Payers Master File. Determine how many Payers you will need to set up. Understand the Payers Master File window. v5.6 Overview of the Providers System Master File This course is intended to familiarize the user with the basics of the Providers System Master File. Define a Provider as it applies to NextGen applications. State the licensing options for your providers. Understand the Providers System Master File window. v5.6 Overview of Appointment Setup - Scheduling, Autoflow, and Followup This course will provide you with an overview of appointment setup, which includes scheduling, autoflow, and follow-up process. Define the important terms used in preparing to set up your appointment schedule. Explain the practice options available to automate the EPM Checkin and Checkout process. Explain the appointment follow-up functions. v5.6 Overview of Charges and Contracts Setup This course will teach you the basics of charge entry setup. Explain the Charge Entry process. Describe CPT4 and SIM codes and their set up in the File Maintenance application. Explain how the NextGen application charges service items and captures the charged amount. Identify the contract attached to the payer and learn how it's set up in the File Maintenance application. Access the Charge Entry Practice Preferences to set up the Real Time and Manual Charge Entry process. v5.6 Overview of Billing Setup This course will teach you how the charges entered during charge entry process are billed and how the data required for the billing process is set up in the NextGen applications. Practice the billing setup in a simulated environment. v5.6 Overview of Payment Posting Setup Time: 40 minutes This course will teach you the basics of Payment Posting Process and how the NextGen applications are set up to perform this process. Describe the Payment Posting Process. Explain manual and electronic payment methods. Explain how the application is set up to post the payments. Describe the NextGen Reimbursement Process. Set up NextGen applications for the Payment Posting and Reimbursement Process. v5.6 Overview of Collection Setup Time: 20 minutes This course will teach you the basics of the Collection Process and how the NextGen applications are set up for this process. Describe the NextGen Collection Process. Explain the Budget Process. Explain the Bad Debt Process. Set up NextGen applications for the Collection Process.
