JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Responsible to: Hours per week: Grade: Additional Learning Support Facilitator ALS Team Leader Term-time only: 38 weeks / part time (0.6) Support Scale 5-6 Main Purpose of the Role 1. To provide learning support for learners with support needs, including profound, moderate and specific learning difficulties, disabilities and behavioural difficulties and specifically those who experience difficulties with literacy and/or numeracy 2. To work under the supervision of ALS Team Leader to support students with their literacy and numeracy difficulties in order that they can succeed on college based programmes of study or training. 3. To provide support through open-access, drop-in and timetabled support for learners, dependent on learner need. This support may include: Assisting learners to improve their literacy and numeracy through small group workshops. Monitoring and supervising individual or groups of learners Assisting with record keeping associated with individual learners Assisting learners with both written and practical assignments 4. To support the effective operation and management of Skills Zones. 5. To develop materials and resources to support learner achievement. General Main Duties and Responsibilities: 1. To support learners with identified support needs in the undertaking of written and practical work in a group or one to one situation. 2. To provide study skills advice and guidance to individual students or small groups relevant to their individual targets and needs in study sessions and on an ad hoc basis when required. 3. To support learners with their literacy and numeracy through group workshops and individual support.

4. To assist the Team Leader with the keeping of student records, learning support audit records and the student s Individual Learning Plan (e-ilp). 5. To assist in feedback and the monitoring of the effectiveness of the learning support provided for individual learners. 6. To listen to learners and take a pro-active approach to assisting and advising them with their additional learning needs. 7. To work with the ALS Team Leaders to develop and adapt learning materials, resources and activities to meet the needs of individual learners. 8. To work with the ALS Team Leaders to develop and adapt learning materials, resources and activities to support the development of literacy and numeracy skills. 9. To provide progress updates on individual learners and contribute to individual learner reviews. 10. To provide support and supervision to learners accessing Skills Zones. General 1. Lead, promote and support the development of the College s Equality and Diversity policies, procedures and practices as they relate to students/staff. 2. Develop effective contact, liaison and working relationships with colleagues in the College and other bodies as appropriate. 3. Support the development of the learning organisation and facilitate cultural change. 4. To engage in professional development and networking to ensure that professional and strategic contributions are up-to-date. 5. Complying with the College Health and Safety Policy and all relevant health and safety requirements. 6. Participating actively in the performance management scheme, agreeing objectives, attending reviews and undertaking staff development as required 7. As the College is a multi-campus site, flexibility and willingness to work across all sites is required. This job description reflects the post, as at March 2015 but may be amended from time to time following consultation with the post holder.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION: Learning Support Facilitator Experience and qualifications Essential 1. English and Maths GCSE at C or above 2. Learning Support Qualification at Level 2 or higher. 3. Working with young adults with learning support needs. 4. Educated to at least Level 3 or equivalent. 5. Previous experience of supporting or teaching in an educational setting. Knowledge 6. A good understanding of learning support needs and strategies to improve outcomes for learners. Skills Personal Qualities 7. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook. 8. Ability to analyse student and curriculum management information data 9. Excellent front line customer service skills patience, tact, sensitivity and good humour and managing behaviour 10. An ability to relate to, and empathise with, students of all ages and backgrounds and the ability to diffuse difficult situations 11. Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals including students, parents, staff and external organisations 12. Be able to deal with people in a calm and courteous manner 13. The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines both independently and as part of a team 14. The ability to work with discretion and maintain confidentiality 15. Articulate and able to communicate professionally with colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally. 16. Ability to work as part of a team and support colleagues. Desirable 1. Level 3 or higher in either English or Maths. 2. Dyslexia or SpLD qualification. 3. A recognised teaching qualification (or prepared to achieve within a specified timescale).

Ability and willingness to travel between sites and elsewhere on a regular basis. 21. Ability to work flexibly (some evening duty may be required) to meet the needs of the College.
