Late hmewrk: We will accept late hmewrk three times with full credit. After that, late hmewrk will receive a maximum f 50% credit. Late hmewrk must be submitted by the day f the chapter test. Essays Yu will write 2 essays. Essays must be typed and will be graded n cntent, language accuracy, and prper frmatting. After each essay is checked by yur instructr, yu will revise the essay. Make crrectins by referring t the Cmpsitin Crrectin Key n Blackbard. Essays that receive 90% r higher are nt required t be revised. Yur riginal scre and scre n the revisin will be averaged. Late essays will drp 10% fr every class day they are late (up t a 50% deductin). Speaking Task & Recrded Cnversatins Yu will be assigned t recrd yur speaking n yur wn and with a partner with yur wn recrding device and submit n Blackbard. The speaking task and cnversatins will be graded n perfrmance (fluency, prnunciatin, and expressin) and cntent (grammar and vcabulary accuracy, level f cmplexity, etc.) Yu must submit a cpy f yur script as well. Class Participatin Class attendance is mandatry abslutely essential t yur success in learning Japanese. Full participatin credit (10 pints per class hur) will be given t thse wh are: present fr the entire class perid prepared fr class fully participating in all class activities using Japanese whenever pssible Partial attendance r lack f participatin will result in deductin f pints. Yu will get 30 free attendance pints fr class (the equivalent f three absences). After that, absences will nly be excused in the case f required attendance at an activity fr anther class r extended illness with dcumentatin. It is nt necessary t prvide excuses fr ther absences. TAMS students: If yu are absent fr any reasn, yu are required t file an absence reprt with Dr. Allen f the TAMS Academic Office. Yu must cmplete the Absence Frm n the TAMS Academic Website. In additin, yur instructr will send peridic attendance reprts t the TAMS Academic Office. TAMS students are nt allwed the use f cmputers in the classrm. Yur lwest chapter test scre will be drpped. Final Exam There will be a cumulative final exam at the end f the curse cvering -. Part f the exam will be multiple-chice and part will be written. Keeping Recrds Students shuld keep all graded materials until the end f the semester. In the case f a grade discrepancy, it is the student s respnsibility t resubmit the graded materials. We have currently tw direct exchanges set up in Japan: Kansai Gaidai University (Osaka) Ritsumeikan University (Kyt) The Study Abrad Office helps students find placements in Japan fr ne semester r an academic year.
