EMBA-Global Asia 2015 Electives & International Seminar/Assignment Portfolio and Selection Process Jinsu Kim, Associate Director, Student Affairs Carol Chan, Senior Programme Manager-Global Asia Megan Hayes, Programme Manager-EMBA Global 1

Requirements The elective portfolio provides a choice of courses that will allow you either to extend your range of knowledge and skills or give you added depth to your existing understanding of a particular subject You must complete a total of 8 electives 7 elective classes 1 international assignment or seminar Standard course load per term is 4 courses (must request permission to under/overload) In spring 2014 (Term 3), students are permitted to take up to 2 block weeks in addition to the 4 core courses You also have the option of doing a Management Report (LBS) or Independent Study/Team Project (CBS), which counts as 1 elective course Students on F-1 visas to study in the U.S. have certain requirements Complete by December 2014/January 2015 2

Requirements, cont. All students are required to take part in a mandatory advising session with Jinsu and Jenny between February and April 2014 Further details will be provided nearer the time The administration of EMBA-Global expect all students to monitor their progression on the Programme and all students are ultimately responsible for their degree planning, including meeting all required elective sign-up periods 3

Extenuating Circumstances All students are expected to complete all of their electives by December 2014/January 2015. A Programme Extension can be requested if a student has an extenuating circumstance and will not be able to complete the programme within the required 20 months of your graduating year. The policy is very strict so be sure to read through all Extenuating Circumstances documentation on the student site so you are aware of the process. Be sure to put some thought into how you plan to complete your electives on time. Examples of situations that are not considered extenuating circumstances: Desire to take a preferred course later in the next term Not sufficiently planning your progression on the programme; or Lack of space on a chosen elective. All electives have capacity limits and, on occasion, you will not be able to secure a place on a particular elective 4

Course formats Block Week format March, April, September, December, January at LBS Throughout each term (spring, summer and fall) at CBS May December at HKU Modular Format These courses are offered over a five day period, generally from 0900-1700 with a lunch break. Though the class sessions are all held in one week, there will be pre- and post-work. Students may be asked to complete assessments during the teaching week or have deliverables due afterward. You may only take one of these classes at a time 2 formats at CBS. Either every other Friday/Saturday or every Saturday. Some every Thursday night options (3 hour class sessions on a predetermined schedule) Every other Friday OR Saturday for 10 weeks at LBS Regular 5 week Format 2x per week for 5 weeks at LBS Weekly/day: morning, afternoon or evening Every week for 10 weeks on Thursday evening, Friday or Saturday at LBS Full-time MBA courses and CBS and HKU You should only register for these classes if you are able to be in London, HK or New York every week. (* For HKU courses details timetable please reach out to HKU programme office) 5

Things to think about Formats do you prefer learning in one week or spreading it out over time? Location what suits you best? What time commitments do you have? Can you travel? What about the extra costs? Broad or focused portfolio - do you want to focus on one particular area in depth? Would you rather explore a topic that is completely outside your previous learning? Do you want to fill in an area of weakness? Do you want to take a class simply because it interests you? Schedule - which classes fit best with your work and personal commitments? How can you maximize your time? Work issues when can you take time off work? Ask yourself the following: What do I want to do after EMBA-Global Asia? What skills/knowledge will I need for the next phase of my career? Which electives will enhance my personal marketability? Which courses/subject areas interest me most? 6

Portfolio and Research To view a list of electives available to you at all three Schools, please see the joint elective grid under Courses and Electives > Elective Information on the student site: www.embaglobalasia.info Course outlines can be found on Portal (LBS) and BOSS (CBS & HKU) Course evaluations for LBS courses can be found on Portal in the Class Directory 7

Really think about what courses are the most important to you.
