Alternatively, turn to the inside back cover for an alphabetical listing of all courses. Course Title The name of the course. Code The code you will need to book your place on the course. Venue The centre where the course is held. See page 7 for an explanation of the codes and full addresses of the centres. Start Date The date you should attend the course venue for the start of your course. Day and Time The usual day and time on which the course is held. This may be subject to change over the duration of the course. Your course tutor will explain any variations. Daytime course Evening course Daytime and/or Evening course Weeks The total number of weeks that you will attend college. SKILLS FOR LIFE English and Mathematics English GCSE & English functional skills Maths GCSE & maths functional skills English and mathematics is essential to everyday life, further study, employment and career development. Our specialist team will support you to progress your skills and qualifications, realise your full potential and prepare you for your next steps. We will guide you through your course where you will study essential skills, such as writing effectively and for a purpose, reasoning, calculating and solving problems, interpreting information and practising speaking and listening skills. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) If English is your second language then these classes will help you with your speaking, listening, reading and writing, whilst at the same time helping you with your grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. Topics covered in class include the language you will need for living and working in the UK. Whilst you improve your language skills you will also be able to take exams from Entry level to Level 2. Adult Enrichment Programme (AEP) The Adult Enrichment Programme offers a range of part-time learning opportunities for adult learners with mild to moderate learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Courses include Cookery, Music, Art, Dance and Drama. Courses are designed to meet the individual needs of the students, who learn in small groups led by experienced tutors, supported by the College s Learning Support Assistants. Courses start in the autumn term and are held at the College s main campus, thereby offering an inclusive learning experience. Lessons are in either the morning or afternoon and run for approximately 30 weeks. Above Bar Training offers a range of specialised workbased qualifications which give students the opportunity to gain true hands-on skills through practical work in the salons, classroom based theory, and experience in industry. All of our qualifications are nationally recognised and valued by employers. They also offer flexible start dates. SMALL PRINT & FEE INFORMATION For further information call our Admissions team on 023 8091 1270. Fees For some courses the total fee includes tuition fee, qualification fee and additional fee. For the majority of courses all fees are payable at the time of enrolment. Qualification Fee This fee is collected by the College and passed on to the appropriate awarding body for your qualification. It covers examination, assessment and certification costs. The College includes a small charge to cover administrative costs. Additional Fees On some courses there may be additional charges to cover the cost of materials used, on site assessment visits etc. These charges will be discussed by your tutor at the start of the course. Payment by Instalments for Students Payment is accepted by cheque, credit or debit card. For total fees between 200 and 599 students may pay by four equal and consecutive monthly instalments (depending on length of course) commencing on enrolment and ending at least one month before the end of the course.* Qualification Courses Only Who Listed Fees Apply To The listed fees relate to those learners for whom the College can claim a Government subsidy where this is available. Your fee will be confirmed at the time of enrolment. Reduced Fees For some courses you may be eligible for help with tuition fees if you: are aged 16, 17 or 18 on 1 September 2017; or in receipt of Employment Support Allowance Work Related Activity (ESA (WRAG)) or Job Seekers Allowance or Universal credit and actively seeking work. If you can provide proof of eligibility for help with tuition fees please note you may still be required to pay some additional course associated costs. All students claiming reduced fees must provide appropriate evidence of their entitlement at enrolment. Help With Course Costs (Qualification Courses Only) For total fees above 600 students may pay by 3 equal instalments (depending on length of course) with the first payment due on enrolment and the 2 subsequent payments due at the start of each following term. Final payment is due at least one month before the end of the course.* Learner Support Fund If you are in receipt of means-tested or disability benefits, or have a low income, you can apply for funds to help pay for course related expenses such as childcare and travel. Fees Paid by Employer or Other Organisation Payment is accepted by company cheque, credit or debit card, at the time of enrolment in full. No instalment option is available. Please note Employers will be liable for any outstanding course fees should the student leave their employment. UK, EU and EEA Students The amount of fees you pay will depend on your personal circumstances and the course you wish to study. You must have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands or the European Union or the European Economic Area continuously for at least the previous three years. International Students If you have not been resident in the UK, EU or EEA for more than 3 years before the start of your course (excluding any time spent in full-time education) different fees may apply to you. Please contact us for more information on 023 8091 1270. Refunds College Cancellation Courses will only run if sufficient enrolments are received. When there are too few enrolments, the College may cancel the course even after receiving payment. If this happens and there is no suitable alternative course, the College will refund all fees paid as soon as possible. Student Cancellation Where the student cancels at least 14 days before a course starts the College may retain all or part of the fees due to cover losses incurred as a result of the cancellation. Where the student cancels after this time they remain liable for the full fees regardless of payment option. The College will retain or collect all fees due. Starting the Course After enrolling, students should attend the first session of the course at the venue, time and date shown in this prospectus.
