Some 26 members were present, filling the meeting room with enthusiasm. In the absence of Jim Roby, Treasurer, Clarence reported a balance in our club account of $1,798.10, with an additional $65.00 yet to be deposited. John Engler's relief carving class will be held at Diann Club Web Site http://www.centraltexaswoodcarversassociation.com

Page 2 Small's in Round Rock December 2, 3, and 4, with painting of the project being done on the 5th. Clarence noted that our club's Santa's Workshop will be on display again in the Round Rock Library. It will remain there throughout the month of December. This is always a popular display for children and adults alike. A number of our club members participated in classes at the 2010 TWG Fall Extravaganza in Kerrville in October, and several members also submitted their work for competition in the sale and show that was held prior to the week of classes. Dan Gillen distributed a Special Report on the awards received by our club members. Gail Lynn announced that the Club Christmas Party will be held at Pok-E-Jo's on Parmer Lane at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9th. This will be our regular monthly meeting night. Gail has reserved their large dining room for our group, and there will be a table to display our carvings. Many thanks to Gail for making these arrangements for our evening. Clarence noted that the Wells Branch Homestead conducts tours occasionally, and invites carvers to come and share their talents and stories during those times. Anyone interested may contact Clarence for further information. Clarence also reported that Paul Groneman from Georgetown will no longer be carving, and has donated roughouts and supplies to our Club. This is a very generous gesture on his part, and the items will be used in future club raffles. CTWA Officers for 2011 were discussed and some of those presently serving will continue in the coming year. Dates in 2011 for the Kerrville TWG Spring carving events will be April 17 for set up, with classes April 18-22. Fall dates will be October 2 for set up, with classes October 3-7. The Show and Sale will follow the week of classes, October 8 and 9., Classes for both Spring and Fall will be held at Guadalupe Park in Kerrville. Clarence Born requested that Debbe Edwards' email address and web site be listed for those wishing to contact her. Her email is wildlifeinwood@ruralinet.net and her web site is www.debbeedwards.com. Following the evening's raffle, many interesting carvings were viewed from the show and tell table. Three club members brought their whimsical bark tree houses carved in the recent class led by Rick Jensen in October. Each carving was unique. Diann Small's bark house was approximately 12 inches tall, with a ladder reaching up the side of the tree. Sue Sweeney's and Dan Gillen's bark houses were approximately 10 inches tall. Each bark house represented hours of work and focus on the many details involved. Photos appear in this newsletter identifying each of the three carvings. Congrats to each carver for such interesting carvings. Continuing with these carvers, Diann brought a fan-tailed Dove and a fan-tailed Hummingbird completed while in class in Kerrville. This was a very popular new class this year as noted both in last month's newsletter and this one. Diann also brought her realistic carving of an Angel Fish, approximately 11 by 11 inches in size, which was carved and painted in Wanda Reichert's class. In addition to the bark house, Dan Gillen had carved and painted a very realistic wolf. Buddy Streetman had completed a chipcarved cross which was about 11 x 8 inches in size. Intricately chip carved in class in Kerrville, Buddy said it was a very challenging project. Woody Hiebert brought her fan-tailed swan completed in the class in Kerrville. She plans to carve more of these in the future. Each of the fan-tailed carvings were from a single piece of wood, four to six inches in length.

Page 3 Johnny Dunlap brought an unpainted caricature of an old country doctor, bag in hand. Clarence Campbell had carved and painted a caricature buzzard perched on a post which about 5 inches tall. This was a blank of the month from a couple of years ago. Tom Sarff had carved and painted a mountain scene on a small wooden spool, and also a mountain scene on one side of a piece of Aspen with a face carved on the other side. He also brought his relief of a moose from a John Engler pattern which bore his own version of a moose's head. This project, which Tom said was his summer traveling project, was approximately 13 by 22 inches, and was painted in watercolors using John Engler's technique. Harvey Beauchemin brought three very interesting pieces. One carving from basswood was 9 inches tall, of two horse heads in the center of a horseshoe. He had carved a rather unique American eagle from butternut about 6 inches in size, and a family portrait from the depression years carved from birch. The carvings were finished in a clear wax. Jake Heugel had carved a very, very small nail in a piece of wood, and yes, the nail could be removed. This was about 1-1/2 inches long and was a small version of his 4 inch carving. Shirley Newman had carved a 6-inch Santa which she had antiqued with brown shoe wax, and also a small nativity, both in keeping with the upcoming season. I hope the critiques on the carvings were of interest, and also correct on my part. Along with the verbal descriptions, Sue Sweeney provides very clear photos of carvings each month. Johnny Dunlap brought Christmas star ornaments for carving. Several ornament blanks from previous meetings were also available. Thanks, Johnny. Hope to see you at the CTWA Christmas Party Thursday evening, December 9th. Shirley Newman Secretary Harvey Beauchemin Dwight Vance shared his owl approaching it's nest, carved from Tupelo. This won "Best of Show in Intermediate Class" in Kerrville, and also won the "Peoples Choice" award as the favorite carving as voted by all award winners. He also brought a 13 inch cowboy bust carved from basswood and finished in a stain. Congratulations, Dwight. We are proud of you and happy for you! Jaleen Vance brought two of her lovely carved canes, one of which won first place in Kerrville in October. Ernesto Norte had finished a woodsman complete with pipe in mouth and feather in cap. This was approximately 10 to 11 inches tall, carved from basswood, with the feather carved from Cottonwood.
