FLOROSA ELEMENTARY Issue 1 Florosa Elementary December 2016 HUSTLE AND HEART SET US APART Holiday Break Music News Welcome 2016-2017 Roadrunners Grades can be accessed through our free app titled OCSD. The username is your child s student number and the password is the final four digits of that student number. You can also access grades on the website. Your child s education is important to us and we want you to be clear about how your child is performing day to day. December 16 th will be an early release day. Students will be let out at 2:30. The office will be closed from December 19-January 2. January 3 rd is a teacher work day. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 4. Accelerated Reader (AR) AR is a nightly reading program. Students set AR goals with their teacher based on 20 minutes of nightly reading at home. Nightly reading is essential for student progress. Encourage your child to read to you each night. The AR book they bring home will be a book that is just right for them. Your child should be able to read the book with little assistance. I will have AR parties for all students that reach their AR goals. AR goals are reached when the student takes a number of quizzes and performs with 70% or higher average score over a nine week period. If a student reaches 100% of their goal I invite them to the AR party. Our next AR party will be held on January 6 th! Please encourage your child to read every night! Our 3 rd grade production of The Nutcracker will be held on December 14 th at 1:30 in the multipurpose room. Safety Patrol Food Drive The FES Safety patrol is hosting a holiday food drive. They are asking for a donation of 1 canned food or non-perishable item per student (corn, tuna, macaroni and cheese, soup, green beans, ramen noodles). All donations will be taken to the local food bank to support our families in need. All items should be sent in by December 15 th. The safety patrol members have set a 500 item goal!
