02 OVERVIEW 1 It is for individuals who do not only want to become more effective managers, but also have the aspiration to progress onto the GIBS MBA programme. The Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in General Management (GM) is a new offering at GIBS which is aimed at individuals who would like to gain a broad overview of business fundamentals in order to prepare them for the GIBS MBA journey. The PGDip in GM is a nine-month programme running from January September 2016. This offering resonates with managers who are self-driven and highly motivated and who are looking to gain a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of business. It is for individuals who do not only want to become more effective managers, but also have the aspiration to progress onto the GIBS MBA programme. 2 COURSE CONTENT AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 3 The following core courses are covered during the PGDip in GM: In order to be considered for a place on the GIBS PGDip in GM programme the following criteria must be met: Financial Accounting Marketing Management Accounting Human Resource Strategy Corporate Finance Operations Management Microeconomics Human Behaviour and Performance in South Africa Macroeconomics Analytical Tools and Techniques Organisational Development and Transformation A minimum of a degree or equivalent qualification; A minimum of five years work experience, at least two years of which must have been at management level; Postgraduate level of intellectual ability (as assessed via the GIBS Entrance Test or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)); Leadership potential (your experience, letters of reference and application essays should all reveal that you can assume a leadership role in the workplace); Good English language skills to have the ability to articulate your arguments verbally and in written format. A minimum of Matriculation certificate-level competence in Mathematics; Competence in the use of a scientific or financial calculator; and Competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a web browser.
4 HOW TO APPLY, DURATION AND 2016/2017 FEE STRUCTURE HOW TO APPLY All applications for the GIBS PGDip GM must be made online via the GIBS website. Note: In order to be considered by the Selection Committee, your application form, the non-refundable application fee of R2 750, application essays, entrance test results, official academic transcripts and referees reports must reach GIBS by no later than the closing dates listed: 31 August 2015 for international students outside of the SADC region 30 September 2015 for non-degreed applicants 2 November 2015 for all other applicants FEES Included in the below fee structure are the fees for PGDip and the MBA phase. 2016/17 FEE STRUCTURE* Application fee (non-refundable) R 2 750 Registration fee (deposit paid upon acceptance, offset against total tuition below) R15 000 Total tuition fees for the programme (2016 and 2017, excluding global module) R210 500 Administration fee for students from countries outside South Africa R5000 Global module fee (applicable only to the MBA phase) $4 000 $5 900 (USD) The above fees include all catering, textbooks, parking, free access to study rooms on campus and campus Wi-Fi.
