Program Description Elimination of Driver Education Requirement Even though the State of Illinois does NOT require students to complete driver education in order to graduate, the State only requires that schools offer driver education.
Program Description Elimination of Driver Education Requirement Students are required to successfully complete PE (7 semesters or 3.5 credits) and Health (1 semester or.5 credit). Per ISBE School Code, students may be waived from PE during the semester in which they take Health. And, per an ISBE waiver, students who enroll in driver education at Lake Park are waived from PE during the semester that they are taking the driver education class. In other words, when students take health and driver education (LP) during the school year, they need just 6 semesters of PE.
Program Description Elimination of Driver Education Requirement If students choose to take driver education at Lake Park, and if they have completed all 8 semesters of PE (without using DE to fulfill a semester of PE) then driver education is considered an elective course which may be used in partial fulfillment of the 3.5 elective credits that are chosen by students.

Minimize crash risk exposure by requiring that new drivers gain critical experience in lower-risk conditions (daytime driving, without peers, etc.) before venturing out in high-risk conditions (night-time driving, with peers, etc.) 3. Improve driving skills by encouraging new drivers to practice, practice, and practice some more and to gradually introduce new privileges when earned. 4. Motivate for safety by acknowledging safe driving behaviors and reducing driving privileges for reckless or unsafe behaviors.
