Department of Mathematics Requirements for a Minor in Mathematics Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics Education Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics Major in Mathematical Sciences Major in Actuarial Science Course Descriptions Graduate Courses Degree Program The Department of Mathematics offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics Education. Students completing the first program will be prepared for employment in the government sector, private sector, or graduate study in mathematics. Students interested in employment immediately upon graduation should select the Mathematical Sciences major. This option gives the student the opportunity to apply various mathematical principles to specific areas such as economics, the sciences, finance, accounting, etc. emphasizing a student s interest. The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics gives the students a solid mathematical foundation and prepares them for graduate study in mathematics or applied mathematics. The Actuarial Science major is specifically for those students interested in careers as actuaries. Completion of this option will provide the student with the information needed to pass the first two exams needed for an actuary career. Finally, the completion of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education will provide the student with teacher certification for secondary schools. A grade of C or better is required in each course in Mathematics taken for credit for a major or a minor in mathematics. Requirements for a Minor in Mathematics A minor in mathematics is offered to the student who satisfactorily completes MAP 202 Differential Equations and () fifteen hours in mathematics at the 000 level or above, including MAS 10 Linear Algebra and MAA 211 Advanced Calculus.
