Bienvenidos a la clase de Español 2! This assignment was designed to keep all of the Spanish you learned this year fresh in your memory so that the transition to next year s Spanish class goes smoothly. (Use the tenses suggested for each assignment.) In order to review your tenses and vocabulary, you should be practicing throughout the summer using the following suggestions: One resource you should become familiar with and use to accomplish the above is http://www.classzone.com/cz/books/avancemos_1/book_home.htm?state=nj. This resource is part of the new textbook series you will be using in Spanish 2 and for the rest of your Spanish education at JDHS. Click on @HomeTutor. Here you will be able to review useful vocabulary using flashcards, games, and practice questions. You will also be able to review grammar in a fun way using animated grammar. In addition, you will have access to all verb charts and explanations including an English grammar connection. You should visit this site weekly during the summer! J The more practice you get, the better you will be prepared for Spanish 2! Another resource you can use to accomplish the above is www.conjuguemos.com. Click on verbs, verb lessons, and even vocabulary under Spanish to review and practice vocabulary and verb conjugations. Here you have access to conjugation charts, flashcards, verb practice worksheets, vocabulary lists, and games. Relevant vocabulary can be found under En español 1 and Avancemos 1. You should also become familiar with http://vocaroo.com/. This is used in class to record yourself speaking and is a useful tool to practice your speaking over the summer. You should record yourself using the topics listed for the blog and play it back to assess your own speaking. During the first week of school, you will be given one of the blog topics on the spot and be required to record yourself for a speaking assessment grade using vocaroo. Practice, Practice, Practice!

** Blog: you must write an entry for each of the topics given. Each topic should be at least 30 words in length to be considered an acceptable entry. It is always better to provide more than less! (Think: Frases con carne! [meaty sentences]). Make sure your writing provides details not just generic statements like voy al cine. (Think: Quién?, Qué?, Cuándo?, Dónde?, Por qué? [who, what, when, where, why]) Change the structure of your sentences flow with transitions like también, entonces, primero, etc (also, then, first, etc). Be prepared to submit your document to your Spanish 2 teacher on the first day of school. This assignment will be hand written, no exceptions! (Consider buying a black marble composition notebook as a journal, we will be using these throughout the school year. Start off on a positive note by beginning with this assignment!) Begin this assignment 1 week prior to the start of the school year, as this is due on the first day of class! (This should be easy, considering all the practice you should have completed throughout the summer! J) Entry #1: Introduce yourself to your Spanish teacher by discussing where you are from, how old you are, and describe your personality. (Use me llamo and present tense forms of tener and ser) Entry #2: Describe your family to your new teacher. (Use se llama and present tense forms of tener and ser) Entry #3: Discuss what you like to do over summer vacation and what you don t like to do. (Use gustar) Entry #4: Tell a friend about your favorite class in school and why you prefer it. (use adjectives and present tense of stem changing verb preferir) Entry #5: Write about what you will be doing this weekend with your family and friends. (use present tense of ir + a + infinitive)

Please make sure to rely on your brain rather than Google translator as you complete these activities. Google translator or any other translator is not acceptable and will result in a zero for this and all future assignments. I want to know what you can accomplish on your own so that I can best prepare you throughout Spanish 2. Should you need some help with a word or two, I recommend the website: www.wordreference.com. Finally, the key to becoming proficient in a is having constant practice and exposure. To assist in your success in next year, I have created a variety of activities that embrace different learning styles and interests to enhance your acquisition. These activities cover the three modes of communication: Interpersonal, Interpretive and Presentational. You are encouraged to complete the activities on an on-going basis and remain connected to the throughout the entire summer. Explore the whole menu and try to work on activities that interest you. Most of all, have fun and enjoy exploring the culture and of the Hispanic world! Please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail @ jmartinez@springfieldschools.com if you have any questions. Have a wonderful summer! I m looking forward to a fun, productive year in Spanish 2! Hasta septiembre! Señorita Martínez
