SACRED HEART COLLEGE 2 Cross Street, New Town Tasmania 7008 Telephone (03) 6279 4090 Dear Parents/Guardians, Arrangements for End of Year 10, 2017 Wednesday, 25 October 2017 This letter is to inform you of a number of important dates for the final few weeks at Sacred Heart College for our Year 10 students. All Year 10 students have received the same information and the Term 4 Student Update will also be sent home to parents. Please read through the following information carefully as it includes some important information for both you and your son or daughter. Year 10 students are encouraged to remain engaged and productive with regard to their studies as we head towards exams, and respectful of themselves, their peers and of College staff at all times. Whilst there are exciting events to come, students have been reminded this week that invitations to each of these special occasions is made by the Principal and can be retracted if a student is unable to demonstrate respectful and co-operative behaviour. Given the number of important events on the calendar in the coming weeks, we ask that any appointments required during the remainder of the term are made outside school hours. We appreciate your assistance with this arrangement, thank you. Calendar of Events Monday 27 November Year 10 Exams English Tuesday 28 November Year 10 Exams Science Wednesday 29 November Year 10 Exams - Maths Thursday 30 November Year 10 Exams History Friday 1 December Student Free Day for Year 10 Monday 4 December Graduation Rehearsal (am) + Graduation Ceremony (pm) Tuesday 5 December Thanksgiving Mass and Final Assembly Wednesday 6 December Orientation Day at Guilford Young College Thursday 7 December Year 10 Graduation Dinner Exam Week 27 30 November Exams begin on Monday 27 November which means that there are now only four full weeks left of formal lessons. It is absolutely imperative that your son or daughter attends all lessons, as much time will be spent in giving them valuable advice about their exam preparation. Each exam will begin at 8.30am and finish at approximately 11.00am and students will be expected to go home at that time to prepare for the next day s exam. Students are asked not to stay on school grounds unless there is special reason and a parent makes a specific request. Students are to wear their College HPE uniform during exam week. The Exam Schedule is as follows: Monday 27 November - English Tuesday 28 November - Science Wednesday 29 November - Maths Thursday 30 November - History Friday 1 December - Student free day for Year 10 Students are encouraged to attend the weekly after-school tutorials, make use of the Study Room in DP5 at lunchtimes and should ensure that they are doing some extra study at home.

Graduation Week 4 7 December As part of the Graduation ceremony we would like to have a primary school photo for each student, preferably from the early years in Grade 1 or 2. If your son or daughter attended SHC primary we will have your photo on file but for those students who joined us in secondary school, could you please email a primary school photo of your child to michelle.stolp@shc.tas.edu.au to be included in the ceremony? Monday 4 December 8.35am - 1.20pm 7.00pm 8.30pm Graduation Rehearsal & Graduation Ceremony Rehearsal at GYC (musicians & readers may be required until 3.00pm) Graduation Ceremony Don Bosco Creative Arts Centre (DBCAC), GYC Glenorchy Rehearsal for our Graduation will take place during the day of Monday 4 December. It is extremely important that all students attend this rehearsal. Students will need to be at school no later than 8.35am and we will then bus to GYC Glenorchy. Students may wear PE uniform to ensure their formal uniforms are ready for the evening ceremony. Rehearsal will finish at 1.00pm and students may be dismissed from GYC with a note from parents (permission form attached). A bus will return all other Grade 10s to SHC where they will be dismissed at approx. 1.20pm. However, musicians and readers may be asked to stay at GYC for extra rehearsals but they will be returned to SHC in time for the 3.00pm dismissal time. Please note that the canteen at GYC will not be open so all students will need to bring their own food and drink for the day. The Graduation Ceremony will be held at GYC Glenorchy Campus in the Don Bosco Creative Arts Centre on the evening of Monday 4 December. The Ceremony will begin at 7.00pm and will conclude at approximately 8.30pm. We ask that all Year 10 students arrive at the GYC Don Bosco Creative Art Centre no later than 6.30pm so we can complete final preparations before the ceremony. The Graduation Ceremony is a highlight of the student s school life and we want the occasion to be as dignified and polished as possible. All students need to be in complete formal winter uniform. Please ensure shoes are polished, hair is tied back and that uniform is clean and tidy. Usual school regulations apply regarding the wearing of make-up and jewellery. Families are asked to be seated no later than 6.50pm. Tuesday 5 December 10.00am 11.30am Thanksgiving Mass, Church Final School Assembly, SSJ Final Mass & Assembly This will be the last day the students formally attend Sacred Heart College. Students will need to be in complete summer uniform no PE uniform please. The day will begin with a Thanksgiving Mass in the Sacred Heart Church. Students are asked to be at school by 9.40am. Mass will begin at 10.00am sharp. Mass will be followed by a recess period and then our Final School Assembly will be held in the SSJ starting at 11.30am and concluding around 12.45pm at which time the Year 10s will be dismissed for the last time. Parents are warmly invited to attend either or both of these special events.

You should very soon receive a letter from Guilford Young College detailing appointment times for individual subject counselling to take place at either the Hobart or Glenorchy campus in mid- November. Wednesday 6 December Year 11 GYC Orientation Day Students will need to make their own arrangements for transport to and from GYC for Orientation Day. You wear free dress on that day. No Grade 10s should be at SHC on this day. Thursday 7 December Graduation Dinner, Hobart Function & Conference Centre One Elizabeth Street Pier, Hobart This year s Graduation Dinner will be held at the Hobart Function and Conference Centre on Thursday 7 December. Students may begin to arrive from 6.00pm and all students will need to be seated in the dining room by 6.50pm. We have arranged for our professional photographer to be available to take family photos between 6.00pm and 6.50pm. The students can also have their photos taken throughout the evening. Students will receive a code on the night for online photo orders. The dinner will finish at 10.00pm and we ask that all parents make suitable arrangements for their son/daughter to be collected at this time. The cost of the dinner is $65.00 per person. Please complete and return the attached RSVP and payment by Friday 17 November. We have tried to impress on the students that they do not need to spend a lot of money on their attire for the dinner. The Graduation Dinner should focus on the celebration of their journey together as a year group. It is important at this stage to address some of the issues surrounding parties which may have been organised for after the Graduation Dinner. In the interest of all involved we encourage parents to think carefully about the following recommendations and to discuss them with your son/daughter: Smaller, well-supervised parties are preferable to larger group gatherings. Ensure you know where your son/daughter will be and who will be supervising. Contact with parents hosting the party is strongly advised. Arrange appropriate transport to and from parties with an agreed pick-up time. Consumption of alcohol by under-age people is a serious matter with legal, health and personal safety implications. Please refer to the following website from The Tasmania Police regarding the Sale and Supply of Alcohol to Youths. www.police.tas.gov.au/services-online/party-safe/ Finally, could you please return the attached consent form to the College Office by Friday 17 November. If you have any questions regarding the last few weeks for Year Ten students please do not hesitate to contact the College. We look forward to celebrating your son/daughter s Graduation journey with you and your family. Yours sincerely Mrs Elizabeth McDougall Principal Ms Christine Cornelius Year 10 Co-ordinator
