SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2017 Grand Finale on April 01-02, 2017 A 36-HOUR NON-STOP PROGRAMMING CONTEST NODAL CENTRE: SHRI RAMDEOBABA COLLEGE OF ENGG. & MGMT., NAGPUR AICTE under aegis of MHRD and in collaboration with i4c, Persistent Systems Ltd., UGC, NASSCOM, Rambhau Prabhodini Mhalgi, SumaSoft Pvt. Ltd, Deloitte, ACM India, NIC, and MyGov launched Smart India Hackathon 2017 on Nov 9, 2016 at the hands of Shri. Prakash Javadekar, Hon ble Minister of HRD, Government of India and Chief Patron, Smart India Hackathon 2017. This initiative aims to build Digital India and to engage the youth of the nation directly with nation building. Smart India Hackathon 2017 is a pan India 36 hour nonstop digital programming competition. The participating teams will simultaneously compete from across 33 locations in India to offer digital yet sustainable innovative solutions to solve real time challenges faced by the nation. It will harness the creativity of millions of bright young minds. For the first time, govt. departments were directly engaging with students and challenging them to build digital solutions to improve their efficiency, plug revenue leakages and corruption. In the words of Union HRD Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar Through Smart India Hackathon We Hope to Create World s Biggest Open Innovation Model That Other Countries Can Replicate. This has been a unique initiative of MHRD, India in terms of scale and reach. It for the first time has involvement of about 30 different ministries/departments, viz., Ministry of Railways, External affairs, Steel, Postal Services, ISRO, NCPCR, etc., in identifying and posting their 598 problems for students seeking innovative solutions.
The Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2017 will be organized, simultaneously across 26 different cities and the winners will get support for converting their ideas into startups apart from cash prizes. These workshops helped connect students with problems of the nation. For the 598 problems posted by government departments, the ideas were received from 7531 teams (each team comprising of 6 students and 2 mentors) with approximately 42,000+ participants from more than 2100 colleges across India (with entries from Andaman & Nicobar Islands). Of these 7531 teams, 1266 teams (around 10,000 participants) are shortlisted for Grand Finale on April 01-02, 2017, during which these teams will work nonstop for 36 hours to build products based on their ideas across 26 locations in India. Awards & Prizes Multiple prizes worth Rs. 50 lakhs for students are on offer. The participating ministries will adopt many of the products developed during the Grand Finale. It is expected that NASSCOM and other funding agencies like AICTE, DST, DBT and ICMR to select best ideas and support them to convert into startups. Recognitions Smart India Hackathon 2017 is expected to be the world s biggest Hackathon till date. The MHRD hopes that this initiative will enter into Guinness Book of World Records and Limca Book of Records.
Few Analytics: Till date, 7531 entries received from 2100+ engineering/technology colleges from across India. Each entry is submitted by group of 6 students which means we have 40,000+ students as participants Maximum responses received for problem statements from AICTE, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Tourism, and Ministry of Civil Aviation Maximum entries received from Tamil Nadu state, followed by Maharashtra 300+ submissions received for under Students Voice sections that invite ideas for problem statements not proposed by any of the ministries.
