ITE Toronto Section is your backstage pass to visit one of the most complex construction projects in the city, which is currently going on beneath the busiest transportation hub in the country. The Union Station renovation is a multi year construction project that will add a new concourse level within the station allowing easier access for the approximately 200,000 people that pass through the station every day. The additional concourse requires a dig down of the basement of approximately 3 4 metres, all while maintaining a rail operation above! Our tour guides will take us through the depths of the dig down area while giving us an overview of the innovative construction methods being used. Time permitting; attendees may also get a brief glimpse of the renovation of Union Station s western office block, which is undergoing a significant restoration to bring it back to its former glory. 11....

Upcoming Events (cont.) The tour will be held on Friday July 27th 2012 at approximately 3pm and will last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. After the tour, attendees will have the option of heading out to a pub in the area for a few drinks with fellow tour mates and members of your ITE Toronto Section executive. This will provide a great opportunity for everyone to continue networking while discussing the Union Station project. Note that a hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and steel toe boots are required. We are asking that attendees bring their own steel toes and hard hats. The remainder of the safety equipment can be provided. If you are unable to borrow or obtain your own steel toe boots and hard hat please contact us and we will try and accommodate. Given the complex and confined nature of the construction site, attendance of the tour is limited at 30 people. So space is extremely limited. If you are interested in attending please contact our activities coordinator Farhad Shahla by email at Farhad.Shahla@mississauga.ca or by phone at (905) 615 3200 ext. 3377. Attendees will be signed up on a first come first serve basis, so don t delay. Sign up now to make sure your spot is reserved. Past Events (cont.) ITE Student Traffic Bowl Mixer Wednesday, May 18, 2012 University of Toronto ITE Toronto Section hosted a Traffic Bowl Social Mixer event on May 18th at O Grady s pub on College Street in Toronto in support of the University of Toronto s (UofT s) Traffic Bowl team. The event was to help the UofT Traffic Bowl team prepare for the national Traffic Bowl competition at the CITE Conference in Winnipeg. During the event, everyone played a game in which the UofT team got to face off against other students and ITE members answering various transportation trivia questions similar to the traffic bowl. ITE Toronto Section provided some appetizers for the attendees as a reward for helping UofT s Traffic Bowl team. The event was a great way to allow the UofT team to practice before the main event and was well attended by a mix of industry representatives and other students from UofT and Ryerson University. Our special thanks go to the UofT ITE Student Chapter President, Erin Toop, for helping to coordinate the event! 2012 CITE Conference and Annual General Meeting May 27-30, 2012 Winnipeg, Manitoba What a great conference at the centre of Canada Winnipeg!
