Dear Applicant, Your generation is part of an exciting time where being bilingual or multilingual is essential for a well-rounded global education. The World Languages Institute (6-12) is a School of Choice and the first Fort Worth ISD School focused to continue the biliteracy and bilingualism of Dual Language Enrichment and Spanish Immersion students, which includes a strong cultural component. At this school, you will continue to receive instruction in Spanish and English in a rigorous academic project based setting, which will include Pre-AP and accelerated courses delivered by Gifted and Talented certified teachers. A strong technology component will also be incorporated in the day-to-day instruction, which together with the opportunity to add a third language will provide you with the tools to embrace any career of your choice. Our school will collaborate and participate in many exciting projects with local universities, Sister Cities, just to mention a few. Before applying for the World Languages Institute; review the student profile and criteria. Your complete application must be submitted in a timely manner before it can be processed and reviewed. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Student selection will be based upon lottery selection. All students who apply to attend World Languages Institute will participate in an English and Spanish assessment to determine their linguistic and instructional needs in both languages. The exam is administered in the month of May. An orientation meeting mandatory to all applicants will take place in January at 6 P.M., date and location TBD. CHOICES Application Form: Make sure that your information is accurate and written legibly. 3. Spanish Essay: Write a handwritten essay in Spanish sharing why you would like to continue your biliteracy in a bilingual academic setting; include, how you think this type of education will help you with your career goals. Please include your academic and personal interests. Your essay should be two pages in length and written on the template provided. 4. Students who are English only speakers interested in the Spanish Immersion Program will write their essay in English and express why they want to learn Spanish. Fort Worth ISD s World Languages Institute (WLI) is the first secondary school to open its doors to students from the Dual Language Enrichment and Spanish Immersion programs, as well as students who are interested in pursuing careers with an international focus. WLI students will continue their study of Spanish and English by taking courses in both languages, and they will have the opportunity to begin the study of a third or fourth language. Students will graduate from WLI multilingual and multicultural a perfect match for the marketplace that awaits them. As a bilingual instructional leader, I would like to inspire the staff, the students and the community to view bilingualism as the light of the world. - Guadalupe Barreto, principal Intensive language study and a rigorous academic curriculum will equip multilingual students for careers of the future across the globe. The multilingual staff, the students and their parents, together with the community, will follow a path of academic excellence while developing the leaders of tomorrow s world. The World Languages Institute will provide: Pre-AP Courses French, Latin, German, Japanese, Chinese, American Sign Language Exploratory Language course Language and Culture from Around the World Clubs including basketball, theatre, Whiz Quiz, instrumental music and choir (non-uil) Eligibility requirements include: bilingual, speaking English/Spanish or English speaker wanting to be immersed in Spanish the desire to learn a third language meet criteria standards The first Fort Worth ISD school focused to continue the biliteracy and bilingualism of Dual Language Enrichment and Spanish Immersion students with a strong cultural component as part of their global education. Students will continue to receive instruction in Spanish and English in a rigorous, academic projectbased setting, which will include Pre-AP and accelerated courses. Technology will be used in daily instruction, and together with the opportunity to add a third language, students will receive a well-rounded education that will open doors to many careers. Students completing the program requirements will receive the Bilingual/Biliteracy Seal on their high school diploma. Students will have enriched experiences through community service and exchange programs with Sister Cities. WLI does not offer UIL athletic or music programs. Informal intramural activities may be available based on student interest.
