UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY PEPP II Program Homegrown Healthcare Providers PEPP II Summer Program: June 6 th - July 3 rd, 2018 MISSION The Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP) II is a summer academic enrichment program for rising juniors and or seniors who are interested in becoming rural physicians or dentists. We offer many avenues for networking, volunteering, and observations to accelerate your application for professional school. Our goal is to provide our participants a summer of growth and involvement to become future healthcare providers in underserved areas across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. OVERVIEW PEPP II is a four and half week residential summer program administered by the Professional Education Preparation Program through the Donald T. Frazier Science Outreach Center at the University of Kentucky. This is a mandatory attendance program; therefore, do not consider applying if you have a conflicting event during the duration of the program. The program is designed to prepare students from medical and dental shortage counties/areas of Kentucky for the admissions process for medical and dental school, as well as, provide clinical and volunteer experiences in medicine and dentistry. PEPP II is funded by the Dean s Office of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Program materials and dormitory housing are provided by the program. All participants must reside in the PEPP designated dormitory (no commuting or apartments). We use email as a major outlet for communication and during the program, we use Dropbox as a means of uploading information and documents for your participation throughout the program. ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be Kentucky residents, whose permanent (home) residence is in one of the medical or dental shortage counties or health professional shortage areas listed below. All applicants must have completed at least two years of college. No graduates or nontraditional students. Applicants must have completed two semesters of general chemistry with labs and two semesters of biology with labs. It is preferred, but not required, that applicants have completed two semesters of organic chemistry with labs at the time of participation. In certain cases, students who need to take a summer school class may be allowed to do so while attending PEPP II, but only if the class(s) is online and we have to be made aware of the need to take the class.
