PROGRAM DIRECTOR: The Faculty Transculturation Program A faculty, professional staff and administrator development program initiated in 1989-90 at TAMUK. The program was originally funded by a Department of Education grant under the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. It has been institutionalized at the University as a budget line-item. TAMU-Corpus Christi adopted the Transculturation model and 11

university faculty participated in a joint program. The professional development program incorporates a post-graduate course on Mexican Americans in U.S. society focusing on the state of Texas. It is presented through weekly, three hour seminars conducted by consulting Mexican American scholars. It includes a two-week language and culture immersion experience for the selected participants at the Spanish Language Institute in Cuernavaca, Mexico 12
