Justine welcomed everyone to the meeting. ACTION Minutes of previous meeting: 1.0 No current update available re installation of mirrors c/f to next meeting. 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 2.0 2.1 2012 Yearbook Linda advised that Facebook is being used to contact all relevant students for distribution of the year book. It is hoped that word will spread and all of the former S6 pupils can be contacted. Mrs Douglas has taken their yearbook to the printers. will speak to Mrs Douglas and provide an update at the next meeting. S6 2013 Year Book is almost complete, Prom photographs and foreword from to be included thereafter will be sent for printing. Recycling of paper to be discussed with the new ECO group. No update available c/f to next meeting expects information on the standardisation of school websites to be made available at a future Head Teacher s Meeting. In the meantime, it was suggested that an after school club could take forward the modernisation of the current school website. Mrs Kennedy brought a copy of the Holy Cross Prayer Book to show the Parent Council members. Update of the prayer book was discussed and Mrs Kennedy agreed that this is something that the Pastoral Team could take forward. agreed to look at various options for printing and provide options to the Parent Council to consider purchasing. Once prices are known PC will consider what year group(s) the prayer book will be distributed to. The February minutes were approved for release on www.holycross.s-lanark.sch.uk Correspondence Email from SLC re SLC annual Parents as partners Conference to be held at Council HQ Thursday 14 th March at 7pm. JD advised that further to forwarding this email on to all members of the Parent Council there had been no interest from any member in attending. JD advised that previous conferences had been very informative and it would be beneficial for the PC if someone could attend. JD further advised that unfortunately on this occasion she was unable to attend but it was hoped that someone from Holy Cross Parent Council could attend in order to represent the school Mr Reilly/Mrs Kennedy All
and provide feedback from the conference. Anyone interested in attending to contact JD to pass details onto SLC. 3.0 Head Teacher s Report Lenten Activities Alma Disco Options Programmes; S2; S5/6 S2 Parents Evening Mass of Thanksgiving Thursday 28 th February Easter Schools Programme Supported Study Programme provided an update on each of the topics above. There have been lots of fundraising events for our chosen Lenten charities SCIAF, HCPT and CHAS. Excellent support to-date. Fr Paddy has been saying Mass each morning in the Oratory 8.35am. Attendance has been excellent. There is also confessions and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on a Friday. ALMA disco took place on the 18 th Feb attended by Blantyre/Motherwell and Hamilton groups. Caritas Group also helped at it providing a great night of fun in the form of a Disco/Food and Bingo just mention a few. Options Programme for S2 and S5/S6 in progress. S2 Options due in on Wednesday 6 th March. New S5/S6 will be meeting with Pupil Support Teams on 13 th March. Interviews are due to start taking place. Mass of Thanksgiving took place on 28 th Feb in Motherwell Cathedral. 15 young people from the Caritas Group attended. There are 43 S6 young people in the Caritas Group this year. Due to the overall increase in numbers, 2 sessions for the Award will be required later this year. Easter School Programme will take place Tues/Wed/Thurs of each week.
Details will be issued to S4/S5 and S6 and can also been found on the school website. Appreciation to the teaching staff who come to school in their own time over the Easter holiday period to provide these classes was noted. Supported Study has also started and will run through to 27 th March. As with the Easter Programme, details will be issued to S4/S5 and S6 and can also be found on the school website. The countdown to the Exams has started... also mentioned that he bought 7 new bins for the Street Area. Additionally there aren t enough bins outside the school grounds and he has spoken to the Council about it. As part of The Year of Faith, all young people will receive a prayer card with The Nicene Creed on one side and a picture of Christ on the other. The Nicene Creed payer card will be used in class as a point of teaching unit. Also, all young people will receive a Rosary from Mission Scotland. The Rosary will be distributed through our R.E. Programme 4.0 Treasurers Report Linda provided an update on the current balance of the Parent Council account. We currently have 2368.96 in the bank and 69 cash in hand. 4.1 Allocation of Funds: The following bids had been forwarded to all for our consideration S6 Caritas Group: 43 x 20 Bid: Parent Council to pay ½ ( 430) Agreed: Cheque given to. Primary Induction Days Thursday 13 th, Friday 14 th June Bid: Parent Council to pay transport costs for 1 day ( cost TBC) This request has been withdrawn for the time being. Agreed: Cheque given to. Whole School ICT Programme: 20 Tablets from BT Business Investigation into best prices ongoing. Pauline Aird advised that she worked for an IT company and offered to investigate best price available through her employer. PA to feedback to JD for discussion with. will also investigate and get the price for a SMART board. Suggestion re donation to the Music Department given their contribution to the bag packing day was not discussed at the meeting c/f to next meeting. 5.0 Fundraising/Upcoming Events Bag Packing at Morrisons booked for the 7 th December. PA Agreed the Mega Raffle will take place in August to attract incoming S1 families and to allow sufficient time for organisation. Agreed each family will receive 2 books of 5 tickets. Justine advised that she had only received one response to her email to Parent Council Members asking if they have any contacts for donating substantial prizes. Marie advised that she had a contact at the Roxburgh Hotel in Edinburgh who she wold contact re donating a prize for the raffle. Justine to draft note for inclusion in Newsletter asking for any parents interested in becoming Business Partners with the school/parent Council and generally asking for support from Parents in any future Parent Council endeavours. Justine also to draft letter to be distributed to local businesses to ask for donations of prizes for the mega raffle in support of our Smart Board Fundraising initiative. Justine to also to contact Ink Spot re printing of the Raffle Tickets to contact parents/friends of the school re obtaining prizes for raffle eg; match day hospitality/signed items from football teams. Justine will provide an update on the Questionnaire results at the April Meeting. to pass completed S2 questionnaires to Justine. Thereafter discussions to be taken forward on how to communicate feedback to parents ie: via email/ or via the School Website. Permission Slips Further to previous issue raised by Anne Marie, Mr Reilly mentioned it may be possible to pre-populate names on permission slips. Meeting scheduled with Jim Reid from SEEMIS. Justine thanked Mrs Kennedy for arranging 13 members of the Caritas Group to help at the upcoming St Patricks Night at St Mary s Church.
