Mr. Hakim Husein 281-641- ahusein@humbleisd.net Conference Period: 3rd Summer Creek High School Geometry information & Class procedures General Information Classroom Goals This course will teach students to think critically, problem solve, and use a broad range of geometry skills that will enable him/her to earn credit toward graduation. Guidelines for Success Success is not determined by ability, but by a student s willingness to work hard, persevere, and communicate. If a student is struggling, he/she must speak up, ask questions and seek guidance. Giving up is not an option. ALL students can be successful in mathematics. They must only give it their all. Classroom Rules and Consequences- Class Expectations: Consequences 1. Be Respectful 1. Warning 2. Be Responsible 2. Seat Change 3. Be Safe 3. Student Conference 4. Be Connected 4. Parent Contact 5. Be Aware 5. Office Referral SCHS Grading Policy Grades are weighted as follows: o Level Courses: 60% Summative, 40% Formative All grades are an assessment of an academic skill, concept, or performance. Grades based on behaviors are reflected in conduct grades. Major or summative assessments are defined as tests, projects, etc. Minor or formative assessments are defined as quizzes, daily grades, homework, etc. There will be a minimum of 3 major/summative assessments per nine weeks. The minimum number of grades is 2 grades per week. Grades cannot be doubled or tripled to meet minimum requirements. Grades are posted at least once a week and published to parents and students through eschool, also known as HAC (Home Access Center) All assignments will be entered into the gradebook before the start of the week in which the assignment is assigned or communicated weekly via the teacher/parent contact source. Parents will be contacted by phone when a student fails a class for the nine weeks.

Reassessment Policy Re-teach and reassessment is mandatory when a teacher has determined that 50% or more of the class has failed to meet the mastery standard of 70% on a summative grade. A student has the opportunity to reassess a summative grade of less than 85 a maximum of once per grading period. The maximum grade on the reassessment will be an 85. Students must make and understand corrections to original summative test and complete all formative assignments to be eligible for reassessment. Reassessments must be offered with 1 calendar week of the date in which the original graded assessment was returned. Students must make arrangements to attend the re-teach and reassessment date set by the teacher if reassessment is done outside of school hours. Reassessment is not available for AP and Dual Credit classes. ** Students may not be able to reassess the last test of the 9 weeks if time does not permit.** Examples Original Grade Reassessment Grade Reported Grade 65 100 85 58 92 85 45 85 85 68 80 80 73 78 78 72 60 72 84 100 85 85-100 Not Eligible Original Grade Late Work Policy All Summer Creek High School teachers will utilize the following late work policy for all classes, regardless of level. Late daily work will be accepted up to 5 school days after the due date with a penalty of 20 points per day. The maximum penalty for a summative assignment completed within the 9 weeks is 30 points. Assignments turned in after the end of the school day are considered late. Conduct Grades E-Excellent S-Satisfactory N-Needs Improvement U-Unsatisfactory Any student receiving a conduct grade of N or U must have documented disciplinary incidents and parents must be contacted by phone.

Online Work Some SCHS teachers assign homework that can be completed electronically via a web-based application. Since these assignments can be assigned and made due at any time on any day, students must stay aware of deadlines. It is expected that teachers communicate the deadlines in class, in writing, and electronically as appropriate. Students should make every effort to access the assignment via their own computer, phone, tablet, or library computer. Late work policies and penalties do apply to online work. Cheating/Plagiarism: Cheating on an assignment or test will result in zero being recorded for that assignment or test. In addition, cheating is considered a conduct violation and is subject to additional disciplinary measures as discussed in the Student Code of Conduct. SCHS students found cheating or plagiarizing (cheating) will be receive a minimum violation of 2 Saturday detentions and will be ineligible to exemption final exams. The following guideline is used at Summer Creek to define and discipline for plagiarism. Additional information can be found at plagarism.org All of the following are considered plagiarism: turning in someone else's work as your own copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit failing to put a quotation in quotation marks giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not Classroom Activities 1. Make-up Assignments: 1. You are responsible for all missed assignments. 2. Check with your teacher to get your missed assignments before or after class, not during class. 3. If you miss a major test, you must ask the teacher when you can make-up the test. Please refer to the handbook for the district s late work policy. 4. If you know you are going to be absent, I am not required to give assignments in advance. 2. Classroom activities may include: Daily Warm Ups, Taking Notes, Assignments, Graphic Organizers, Quizzes, Classroom Discussions, Group Work, Tests, Projects, Exit Tickets 3. Major Projects will be assigned periodically during the school year. 4. Tutorials: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:15 AM Classroom Procedures Entering the Classroom Walk into the classroom and sit down in your seat. Make sure you have your supplies ready (ex: pencils, assignments, unit packet, etc.). If there is a warm-up posted on the board, begin working immediately.

Tardy to Class You are tardy if your body is not through the threshold when the bell begins to ring. If you are tardy, you must report to the nearest house to obtain a tardy pass. You will not be admitted to class without a pass after the tardy bell has rung. Materials Students are encouraged to write in pencil. If a student does not have a pencil, he/she may use a classroom pencil if one is available. If there are no pencils available, it is the student s responsibility to obtain any writing utensil necessary to complete his/her notes and assignment for the day. Students will also need a 1 binder to hold their notes, assignments, and returned work. Earbuds are required as we will use Google Classroom frequently, and through this online program students will be watching videos or audio content. The earbuds will minimize distractions for the student as well as those around him/her. Notes and Assignments All notes and assignments are available online on the classroom calendar which is located on my Staff Site. You must login using your Novell username and password to see the calendar and all of it s content. Students will be given a packet containing notes and assignments for the entire unit on the first day of the unit. This packet also includes a cover page which includes the date that each assignment is given and due as well as how it is expected to be submitted. Submitting Assignments Many of our assignments will be submitted through a website called Socrative. Each classroom has a unique code. Students will be given this code in class. If there is an assignment that is to be submitted during class, there will be a set of trays labeled by class period for students to utilize to submit their work. Returning Assignments Socrative will provide students with a grade for their assignment immediately after submitting it. If the student is unhappy with the grade they receive, they may review their work and make necessary changes. Then, he/she may resubmit the work again. The grades will be averaged together for both submissions. If a student wishes to know exactly what problems they have missed, they must ask. Grades Students and parents are responsible for monitoring grades online via eschool or HAC. Grades will be updated a minimum of twice a week. I recommend checking your student s grades on Wednesday and Friday. If a student wishes to discuss his/her grades, he/she must do so before school so that we have time to hold a proper discussion regarding the problem and possible solutions. If a parent wishes to discuss a student s grades, please e-mail me as this is the fastest means of communication. Phone calls will be returned within 2 business days but e-mails will often be returned during the same day. Absences All notes and daily assignments are accessible on the calendar as well as the student s unit packet. Students are responsible for requesting missed work prior to absence or upon returning to school, preferably before school begins. If he/she needs help catching up, this must be done during tutorials. We are moving on daily and will not have time to reteach missed material during the class period. A student that is absent on the day of an exam has 3 days upon his/her return to make up the missed exam. Daily assignments will have as many days to be submitted as missed. Make-up exams will only be given during tutorials, not during class.

Communication E-mail is the most efficient way to contact me. I return most e-mails in the same day as received if received before 2:45 PM. I will send out periodic e-mails alerting parents and students to new unit content, quizzes, and test dates. Please make sure your e-mail address and contact information are updated in Home Access Center. This is the information I will use to contact you. Dismissal Students will remain seated until the bell rings. They are expected to clean the area on and around their desk as well as return any borrowed supplies. Any work that was not completed in class is expected to be submitted by 7:15 AM the following school day, unless otherwise specified. Consequences for Code of Conduct Violations I must follow through with disciplinary referrals for violations of schoolwide rules or district policy, including severe disruption of the educational process, gross insubordination, profanity, aggression/oppression, drug-related activity, bullying/harassment, dress code/ids, attendance, threats, violence, etc. Please consult the Humble ISD Student Handbook/Code of Conduct 2017-2018 for more information.
