School of Science, Engineering & Design Bring me with you POSTGRADUATE induction passport 2017
Welcome Welcome to the School of Science, Engineering & Design. I hope you enjoy your time studying with us. Our School aims to provide you with an outstanding educational experience, supporting you throughout your studies please don t hesitate to ask if you need help or further information. I look forward to meeting you and wish you the best of luck with your studies. Professor Stephen Cummings Dean We have planned some great events during Welcome Week to help you meet students on your course and teaching staff. To help you settle in we have included: > tasks to do before you arrive > course details > campus map > information on how to get support if you need it. We have also included a checklist of things to do before you arrive. It is important that you complete the online registration process as soon as possible as this forms the start of your enrolment process. Registering now also allows you to access your timetable and a number of other University services. You are invited by email to set up your IT account online and register fully for your course. You can t access any of our systems until you have set up your account so do follow the instructions with care. When you arrive you will receive a full itinerary of Welcome Week events. These include a hands-on session about our electronic systems and an introduction to key staff and University departments. Bring this booklet and any accompanying letters with you in September as part of your induction passport pack so that you know exactly what to do when you arrive. If you have any questions or find that something doesn t work as planned, please let us know. We are here to help and look forward to seeing you soon. Checklist information Why should I set up my user account and security details now? You will not be able to start the online enrolment process until you have set up your user account. Details for how to do this will be sent to you via email (to your specified personal account). Once your user account is active you will be emailed a link to your University email account to enable you to register online and begin the enrolment process. Setting up your security details will allow you to request a password reminder if you ever forget it (or mistype it too many times, resulting in a lockout). Your password is unique to you, but it should be something you remember. Your pin number will be used to access additional services, such as your online library account to renew books remotely. Why should I access my emails now? We use your University email address to keep you updated. Once you arrive you need to check your emails daily to ensure you don t miss anything important. You will need your user account details to log in. mymail.tees.ac.uk
Why should I register online? To save time the sooner you register, the sooner you can see your timetable of classes and access your online module support through Blackboard. It also means you won t need to do it on the day you arrive, allowing you time to enjoy other activities. If you upload a suitable personal photograph you won t need to queue for your TUSC (Teesside University Smart Card) when you arrive, as we will have already printed it for you. Your TUSC card will provide personalised access to teaching rooms and buildings, and can be loaded with cash to purchase food and drinks from around the University campus, amongst other things. However, if you already hold a TUSC card please bring it with you during Induction and we will check whether it is still suitable for use you may need a new card. If you upload a photograph before you arrive we will automatically prepare a new card for your arrival this will render your existing card inactive. What other University services can I access? You will be able to register for our cashless food and drink scheme which enables you to load cash (via automatic top ups or on an ad hoc basis) to your TUSC and pay for your purchases with a simple touch of your card at any of the University catering outlets. You can also load your TUSC with printing credit for use around the campus. You need to have set up your security details to use these services. mytusc.tees.ac.uk
How do I view my timetable? You will be able to see an electronic version of your timetable on our intranet site. This is updated regularly to reflect any timetabling changes between now and the start of your classes check it every day once you arrive. You will need your user account details to log in. tees.ac.uk/schools/sse/intranet Why should I use Blackboard? All your modules are supported by Blackboard. Lecturers post important announcements, lecture materials and tutorial work onto Blackboard throughout the year. Your modules will appear on Blackboard by the start of academic classes. We recommend you log in and familiarise yourself with Blackboard before you arrive. eat.tees.ac.uk I m stuck! What do I do next?
