SIXTH FORM An Introduction to Sixth Form Life

WELCOME to Lingfield Notre Dame Sixth Form The Sixth Form is the culmination of a student s education for life. We hope our students will leave with the life skills, self-awareness and compassion they will need to face the challenges of adult life and to make a valuable contribution. Richard Bool, BA. MBA, Headmaster

I am delighted to introduce you to Lingfield Notre Dame. It is a wonderful School that provides an excellent allround education in a friendly, supportive environment, from Nursery to Sixth Form. Our students are open, confident, focused and passionate about their School and are proud of their part in making it such a vibrant, happy community. We are a dynamic, forward-thinking school which aims to develop students as individuals, to prepare them for the challenges they will face after school and enable them to acquire the life skills, self-awareness and compassion required. We want our students not only to make the most of their abilities and talents, wherever they lie, but also to become adults who can make a valuable contribution to society. We celebrate each individual student and aim to ensure that they leave the School as confident young adults who have high self-esteem and are well prepared for the next stage in their lives. Our staff are extraordinarily hard-working and go beyond the call of duty to help each student reach their full potential. The School has a very strong academic ethos. Results in recent years have been outstanding and the curriculum is broad and diverse. There is a wealth of co-curricular activities available and the students are encouraged to make full use of them to develop their own individual strengths and personalities. We are also proud of the pastoral care we provide for our students. We value them as individuals and do everything in our power to make their time here as happy as possible and to help them cope with the ups and downs of different stages of life through to adulthood. We have very positive relationships with the students parents and guardians and believe very strongly that communicating and working closely with them, we can support their children most effectively. Our students are testament to the happy, successful school that is Lingfield Notre Dame. Richard Bool, BA. MBA, Headmaster

SIXTH FORM: A WONDERFUL PLACE TO WORK AND STUDY Our Sixth Form has a productive, vibrant and lively atmosphere. We provide a dynamic and supportive environment for our students to achieve their academic potential whilst equipping them with the life skills they will need for the future. In addition, we encourage our students to be ambitious yet realistic with their future goals and to have the confidence to pursue and achieve them. Our Sixth Form prepares our students with a wellrounded education and grounding, which is an excellent preparation for university and life beyond. The new purpose-built Sixth Form Centre, which only opened in 2014 provides a university-style Lecture Theatre, Apple Mac computer suite, Atrium café, specialist teaching rooms for careers education and media production. There is a superb, modern bistro-style dining-room exclusively for the use of the sixth formers, complete with a social area and an extensive study room with its own computer suite. The strong tutorial system closely supports the students with their studies and their personal development. There are various opportunities available to them to further enhance their education including the Extended Project qualification, subject conferences, a debating society, university lectures, leadership courses, qualifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, film making projects and overseas community projects. Academic scholarships are offered to the most gifted students. Additionally, those showing a talent for art, drama, music and sport are also rewarded.

Our Sixth Form prepares our students with a wellrounded education and grounding, which is an excellent preparation for university and life beyond. With the future in mind, we aim to make the most of our links with outside agencies in the community in order to promote work experience and develop our careers programme. Our Careers Department supports individuals to explore the options and career paths available to them and advises them on how best to achieve success. Our international students reside with local families under our Homestay programme. This is overseen by Gabbitas, who have many years experience in this field. The Homestay programme provides a truly unique insight into typical British family life as students are welcomed into the families home and lifestyle. It is the perfect reality stepping stone before leaving school to progress to university. Our students leave us for diverse destinations, including the top universities and institutions that are best suited for their subject specialisms. By fostering an independent, active and responsible approach to life, we are proud to produce mature young adults who are confident, happy and successful and have much to contribute to the future. Sixth formers are expected to take advantage of the leadership opportunities available to them. Every year the School elects a Head Boy and a Head Girl team and students can apply to become Prefects of Houses, subjects, or to have a mentoring role with a form of Lower School students. All students are encouraged to be active in the School community and to assist with clubs, participate in productions, join the orchestra, choir or a sports team.

SIXTH FORM: ROOM TO EXPAND YOUR MIND In order to achieve a healthy, successful work/life balance, whilst at school and for the future, we encourage all our students to expand their interests with a wide range of co-curricular activities. We believe in the work, rest and play philosophy and to this end, provide a wide range of activities available to all. There are a wide range of sporting options available. We also offer an impressive range of musical clubs and ensembles. We hope that by introducing these options at an early stage of adulthood our students are better equipped to handle the challenges which adult life can bring. Lingfield Notre Dame is well known for its pastoral care, which is outstanding and second to none. The excellent teaching and superb facilities, together with the beautiful surrounding landscape, make it ideal for students to meet the challenges of teenage life and help to steer them towards their full potential. Ever since the founders sought Lingfield Notre Dame as a safe and nurturing environment in which to educate children who were evacuated during the Second World War, the School has maintained this ethos and the students benefit from tremendous support given by teachers who care deeply about their welfare and progress. The warmth and friendliness of the School are evident when walking around and are greatly valued by the students.

Our students are encouraged and advised by our Sixth Form Careers Advisor who runs weekly workshops on writing a CV, applying for jobs, and assists them to prepare for and create a good impression at an interview. She also helps students find enriching and relevant work experience. She assists each individual with their choice of career and UCAS application to university in order to achieve their goals. Our annual Careers Fair in February hosts delegates from a wide range of industries and businesses. There are also a series of short talks throughout the day by recent graduates and career specialists. This unique opportunity provides inspirational advice and enthusiasm and has even resulted in work experience. Recent participants have included senior staff from the Royal Bank of Scotland, Mercedes- Benz, hospitals, dentists and plastic surgeons, The Lady magazine, Mace Group, Reed Smith LLP, Close Brothers, architects, RAF, and Extech among many others. The culmination of the students effort and hard work is rewarded on results day when the teachers take a step back, applaud the students and celebrate the start of their exciting journeys.
