I also wish every teacher, staff and student of NIT Jamshedpur A Very Happy Republic Day. We all have started our journey of excellence on 15 th August, 2012 with a great mission and vision for achieving academic excellence by adopting best practices. Our successful journey of excellence has gained the age of three and half years. I feel it is an occasion to recollect our roadmap for the Academic excellence and good governance. Institute is implementing the following best practices with your involvement: 1. BEST PRACTICES FOR THE GOOD GOVERNANCE NIT Jamshedpur is having its vision 2022 document and predefined long term plans and goals to take the Institute from good to great Institute is having well defined mission, core values, objectives and philosophy The minutes of BOG, FC, BWC, Annual Reports and Audited Accounts available on the Institute website Clear communication and transparent process and procedures Decentralized academic departments/centres Shared and centralized administrative sections and service units/centres Supportive work culture and values Strong leadership and leadership at all levels People Involvement Initiates for the development of digital Institute: File Tracking System (FST), Document Management System (DMS), Management Information System (MIS), Bio-Metric System (BMS) and Digital Technology (DT) for good and affective governance of the Institute Online fee payment through SBI collect "One bank-one account' for all students, faculty and staff for good financial management Well defined organization structure based on NIT Act, and First Statutes Committees for academic, administration and development activities Procurement manual for the procurement of goods and services. The procurement of goods and services above 5 lakhs is done through the Central Public Procurement Portal (www. eprocure.gov.in) Appointment of Charted Accountant for the good financial management of the Institute, appointment of Placement Officer for good campus placements and appointment of Security Officer for safety and security of the campus

All Institute financial transactions are made online (NIFT/RGTS) Initiated for the preparation of Administrative Manual Recruiting / Hiring the best people and Online portal for recruitment process The detailed information and data is available on the Institute website to facilitate all the stake holders of the Institute Development of benchmarking process for the good governance of the Institute Students satisfaction survey at exit level Campus residents satisfaction survey 2. BEST PRACTICES FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Academic excellence is the brand image of NIT Jamshedpur. The best practices were implemented for the academic excellence is: Automated UG, PG Ph.D. admission process has been introduced since the year 2013. In this admission process the complete details/database including bio-metrics of the student will be captured on the first day of his/her admission. RFID multipurpose ID cards will be issued to each student on the spot. The OBC, SC and ST certificates will be scanned and are send for further verification at their respective offices The whole admission process is recorded by surveillance system All academic programmes are scheduled as per the academic calendar. Academic calendar is distributed to all students during first week of both Autumn and Spring semesters Academic registration process is made online through MIS The detailed course handout which includes course description, scope, objectives, text & reference books, course plan, evaluation scheme, and chamber consultation hour and details of notice board Internal and continuous evaluation scheme: Sl. Code of conduct for the students during examination circulated among all students Instructions to invigilators during examinations circulated to all faculty Class room attendance is made compulsory Entry of daily class attendance and regular marks assessment details in MIS by faculty members The academic division coordinates the overall examination system and the declared results are available online and send SMS to students Online verification of degree certificate Summer quarter classes (6/7 weeks duration) for the backlog courses Digital library (with e-text books, e- journals and e-learning resources) Visiting faculty recruitments from Industry for teaching assignment Equal importance to teaching and research Flexibility of academic programmes and curriculum Online student feedback for various aspects of the course and its teaching. The results of the feedback would be shared with teachers after grade submission for the course or next semester. The results of the student feedback are uploaded in the Institute website In pursuance of academic excellence, NIT Jamshedpur is successfully implementing the above best practices for effective teaching and learning 3. BEST PRACTICES FOR STUDENT WELFARE Life cum medical insurance scheme to all students for the good hospital facilities (Cash less) and insurance coverage The Institute has started the "Finishing School" programme in the year 2013 for academic support to the students. It will provide extra training classes from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM to enhance the academic learning skills and subject domain through remedial classes, group discussions, soft skills and GATE/IES coaching The Student Wellness Centre (SWC) started functioning from Jan, 2013. SWC is implementing report/recommendations of the TASK FORCE constituted by the MHRD for preventing incidents of suicide and promotion of wellness in the CFTIs. "Art of living" workshops organized for wellness of the students Counsellors are available for counselling the students for their wellness Financial support to physically challenged students to purchase motor vehicle Financial support to the needy students from students welfare fund

Introduction of 24x7 surveillance systems in the hostel blocks, dining halls, academic blocks, administrative blocks and for some selected computer laboratories Institute plays host to thousands of students from Institutes/colleges all over India during its Annual techno-management fest, Ojass, Cultural fest, Utkarsh and Annual athletics and sports meet Events held and organized by various clubs and societies of the Institute aims at all round development of the students apart from academics Innovation club to promote critical thinking and innovative projects Seed grant/financial support to the students for the innovative projects and presentation of papers in conferences are initiated Earn-N-Learn scheme (Teach and earn while you learn) is introduced for the benefit of poor students who can teach basic courses like Maths, Physics and Chemistry, English etc. to the poor school going boys and Girls of surrounding higher secondary schools Bank loan facility made available for the students Associate Dean (Student welfare) is coordinating all the activities regarding social welfare scholarships, state scholarships, merit scholarships and education loans Implementation of Mission "Swachch NIT" providing a guarantee of clean hostel, clean mess, clean water and hygienic & wholesome food to its students 4. BEST PRACTICES FOR FACULTY WELFARE Group Insurance Scheme (LIC of India) to the employee of NIT Jamshedpur CPDA to all regular faculty members 4-tier flexible faculty structure TEQIP-II funds are made available for the capacity building of faculty and staff, organizing the conferences/short term courses and attending conferences/workshops Medical services at TATA Main Hospital (TMH) Jamshedpur and CGHS recognised listed hospitals Implementation of Kakodkar Committee recommendations. Hiring Adjunct Faculty (Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professor) on Tenure Basis in NIT Jamshedpur from the Reputed Practitioners/engineers (from Industry), academicians, scholars, policymakers and other professionals both serving and retired to enhance the academic excellence of the Institute "Centre for Innovation and Incubation Entrepreneurship" to promote innovative projects among faculty and students Academic work culture and creation of right culture

BEST PRACTICES FOR INSTITUTE AND INDUSTRY LINKAGES "Industry and Alumni Relations" headed by Dean to strengthen the linkages between the Industry and Alumni relations "Centre for Innovation and Incubation Entrepreneurship" to promote innovative projects among faculty and students Invitation to Industry and R & D labs to establish centre of excellences/labs at the Institute and to provide internship for one or two semesters duration at Industry Support facility/services to Industry and R & D labs Continuing education programmes for the development of human resources of the TATA Steel and nearby Industry Promoting Industry and academia interaction 6. BEST PRACTICES FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT Detailed Project Report (DPR) for infrastructure requirement in the next 10 years (2012-22) Master plan of the Institute MoU signed between NIT Jamshedpur and Central Public Work Department (CPWD) (Project division opened at NIJ Jamshedpur). Construction, Renovation, Maintenance (Civil & Electrical) at NIT Jamshedpur on turnkey basis as a deposit work is agreed between two parties BOG deeply appreciated the efforts taken by the Institute for the ongoing construction of two mega hostels J & K and also for the complete renovation of all 11 hostels of the Institute simultaneously during summer vacation 2014. Initiated Clean and Green Campus 7. BEST PRACTICES FOR COMMUNITY WELFARE / OUTREACH Community welfare is an activity for providing services to nearby community. Community Welfare Cell is headed by Professor-in-Charge to develop the community. The Nodal officer for TEQIP-II from IIT Kharagpur has visited our institute very recently on 30 th Nov to 01 st Dec, 2015 for completing his 3 rd mentoring. During his visit, he has visited almost all laboratories and other places in the Institute. He was very much satisfied with the progress of TEQIP-II activities in the institute. He has also reviewed the

revised Institutional Development Proposal (IDP) for components such as scaling up postgraduate education, demand driven research & development and innovation at NIT Jamshedpur. Recently, our institute has participated in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) - 2016. For this purpose, the required details and data of the institute has been filled-in and uploaded. I wish our institute may get a good rank among other institutes in the country Now, Institute have Twelve Departments, Seven BTech (Hons) Programmes, Sixteen MTech Programmes, Three MSc Programmes, MCA programme and PhD Programme. This Academic Year, we strengthened our MTech Programmes from 8 to 16 and reintroduced MSc Programmes. Now, we are focusing on strengthening, the best practices for academic excellence, good governance, academic audit, curriculum of BTech (Hons) Programmes, academic flexibility, strengthening of labs, one semester internship at industry for BTech Programmes, one/two semester internship at industry for MTech Progarmmes and recruitment of Faculty. We know, achieving academic excellence is a continuous process. It requires the active involvement of people for implementation of best practices for academic excellence and good governance. Therefore, let us all extend our immense cooperation and involvement to build the brand image of NIT Jamshedpur for its academic excellence and good governance. Finally, I seek your active involvement, cooperation in all activities of the institute to transform our Institute from "Good to Great" among the other Institutes of the nation. Our targets are: one of the best Institute among top 20 that is our mission 2017 and one of the best Institute among top 10 that is Mission 2022. Now, I am very happy to inform you that, NIT Jamshedpur is the mentor Institute for the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Ranchi and Director, NIT Jamshedpur is the Mentor Director for Indian Institute of Information Technology, Ranchi. IIIT Ranchi is offering two academic Programmes from academic year 2016-17 onwards through CSAB 2016. The academic Programmes are BTech Computer Science and Engineering and BTech Electronics and Communication Engineering. I seek your active involvement to build IIIT Ranchi also for the economic growth of our Nation and society. I am happy we are moving forward.
