THE CHANGEMAKER JOURNEY Invitation to the Everyone a Changemaker Movement

In the world today we can easily say that the number of problems outruns the number of solutions. The only way for the number of solutions to outrun the number of problems is to increase the number of solutions - to increase the number of Changemakers.

Through Ashoka s 36 year experience we know that powerful Changemakers start young. Hear what they have to say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zii6or1bxrg

A Changemaker is someone who has found the selfpermission to advance change for the good of all.

How do we empower students to become Changemakers? We got your back!

Introducing the Changemaker Journey

The Changemaker Journey includes: 2. 3. A researched stepby-step map that identifies what it takes for an individual to become a successful Changemaker A methodology for creating the necessary experiences and environment that empowers students or staff to become Changemakers Best practices and strategies in supporting students and staff to create programs or initiatives that empower their peers to become Changemakers

It s as simple as...

1. Spark - How do Changemakers start their Journey? 4 Steps 2. First Action - How to put the spark in action? 3. Appreciate - How to validate this journey? 4. Change- How to create the mindset of a Changemaker?

The Changemaker Journey is one that helps students and staff find their power and help their peers to do so as well. An opportunity to: - Discover your power to innovate, inspire, and influence change within your community - Experience what it takes to be a Changemaker - Receive resources that will help you innovate and advance - Join a global network of young and adult changemakers - Create a legacy of changemaking in your community - Lead your peers or students through a life changing experience - Mobilize, align, and unite the changemakers within your community

How do we know this works? Through Ashoka s large network of Social Innovators, we identified the top changemakers around the world and analyzed common patterns in their personal journeys to change the world. Changemaker Journey was created from researching a significant number of changemakers, and analyzing common patterns from their own journeys. The Changemaker Journey is not necessarily the same for everyone, but it can serve as a real time step-by-step methodology towards becoming and advancing as a Changemaker, and supporting others to do so.

Always lead with your passion, and your journey will be great. Haile Thomas, age 15 Founder, The Happy Organization

Understanding the Changemaker Journey will enable youth, parents, educators, youth organization leaders, and others to design the necessary experiences and environment to support themselves or youth to start and advance in their Changemaker Journeys.

Here is an Example: Meet Odessa: - 19 years old - Student- Arizona State University - Knows she is a Changemaker - Determined to make more Changemakers on her campus

She used the Changemaker Journey to design experiences to help students start and advance in their Journeys... Organized a volunteering event to expose students to drug addiction issues. Followed-up with volunteers and invited them to take action and fundraise for the addicts. Once volunteers fundraised, she wrote a story about their impact and shared it with media. After their story got told, the student wanted to continue to help. Odessa guided students to resources. In the end, these students will know they have the power to make a difference. They will know they are Changemakers. 1. Spark 2. First Action 3. Appreciate 4. Change

How can you bring the Changemaker Journey in your community? How can you get started?

Three ways to engage with Ashoka: 1. For Changemaker Students: Changemaker Influencers Program Select a young Changemaker Influencers in your community. These influencers will have access to Ashoka s resources and best practices to administer the Changemaker Journey methodology. They will be part of a larger network of influencers. 2. For Changemaker Students, Faculty, and Staff: Changemaker Journey Cocreation Session Organize an Ashoka Co- Creation session to deeply understand the Changemaker Journey and to co-create a strategy to empower youth to become Changemakers and transform their communities.. 3. For Prospective Changemakers (student or staff) Changemaker Journey Culture & Capacity Building Get your university to undergo Ashoka s specially designed activities to support your team to find their power and to become Changemakers.

What is required to make these engagements happen?

Process: Changemaker Influencer Program Nominate the Changemaker Influencers on your community based on Ashoka Criteria Application Link: Click here to Apply Ashoka reviews the nomination Once selected, the nominatee will join a global network of Changemaker Influencers and will receive online training and resources The Changemaker Influencers will be equipped to administer the Changemaker Journey methodologies in your community

Process: Changemaker Journey Co-Creation Session Find the Changemaker stakeholders (students, staff, and faculty) in your community who are dedicated to spread Changemaking Organize a 1-2 day Co-Creation session and request an Ashoka Master Facilitator Convene all the stakeholders and undergo the co-creation session By the end of the session, all the stakeholders will have a clear direction on how to create a powerful program for advancing Changemaking within their community These stakeholders will receive Ashoka s best practices Changemaker Journey document

Process: Changemaker Journey Workshop Identify a group of young people or/and staff who are interested in starting and advancing in their Changemaker Journeys Organize a 1-2 day workshop with an Ashoka Master Facilitator Convene all the stakeholders and undergo the workshop By the end of the workshop all the participants will be able to find their Spark and Self-Identify as Changemakers These individuals will receive a document containing best practices to start and advance in the Changemaker Journey

There are more than one billion young people in the world today. While this extraordinary number represents the largest youth demographic in human history, behind this number are opportunities to cocreate a different kind of world where "Everyone is a Changemaker. Ashoka s Youth Venture programs are building networks to transform the experiences and systems that young people navigate because they will shape how young people lead and make an impact... how parents raise their children... how teachers and schools engage students... and how companies hire talent and support local communities. In order for children and young people to thrive in a world that change is the only constant, they need to master the skills to engage with this change. They need to be Changemakers.

A world full of light, love, and laughter. It s time has come. Let s make it happen. -Sadhguru Everyone a Changemaker For more information contact Ashoka s Mentor Dida at mdida@ashoka.org
