Online Sources of Information This preface discusses: Using Online Sources of Information Using Online Sources of Information This PeopleSoft Enterprise Financial Management, Enterprise Service Automation (ESA,) and Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) Hardware and Software Requirements for PeopleTools 8.48 document is a supplement to the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.48 Hardware and Software Requirements document. This document is current as of the posted date; however, certification support levels are continually evolving. In addition, this document purposely provides a high-level view to avoid too many specifics such as version numbers that may quickly become out of date. There are several additional sources of information described here from which you can obtain up-to-date details about supported platforms, version numbers, and the like. PeopleSoft Customer Connection is an electronic bulletin board and information exchange service that provides you with up-to-the-minute PeopleSoft information, discusses tips and techniques with other PeopleSoft application users and PeopleSoft staff, and provides PeopleSoft application updates and fixes. To access Customer Connection, you need internet access and a supported browser. In addition, because the delivery mechanism for PeopleSoft updates and fixes is an FTP server, you will need FTP capability to take advantage of these updates. Note. PeopleSoft Customer Connection is password protected. Contact your PeopleSoft Account Manager to obtain a password. Review these areas of the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website for up-to-date information: Supported Platforms: Contains information on the certified database and operating system configurations. This information is your definitive resource for supported products and their version numbers. Select Implement, Optimize + Upgrade, Implementation Guide, Supported Platforms, PeopleSoft Enterprise on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Third-Party Patches: Contains a listing of all required third party patches. Select Implement, Optimize + Upgrade, Implementation Guide, Supported Platforms, PeopleSoft Enterprise on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Drill down to the appropriate Supported Server Configuration page and select Required Operating System, RDBMS & Third Party Product Patches Required for Installation. The Hardware and Software Requirements Guide: To find the electronic version of this document in PDF format, select Site Index, H, hardware and software requirements on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Release Notes: Documentation updates that are delivered with each PeopleTools maintenance release that explain new features and changes, and summarize resolved incidents (fixes). Select Site Index, R, release notes on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Upgrade Information: Contains information about tools and instructions for performing upgrades from previous PeopleTools versions. Select Site Index, U, upgrade documentation and scripts on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Co pyrig ht 2 00 7, O racl e. A l l righ ts re served. vii

Preface Installation Documentation: Contains general and product-specific installation guides and notes. Select Site Index, I, installation guides and notes on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website. Note. CHAPTER 1 Defining Cross-Application Requirements for PeopleSoft Financial Management, ESA, and ALM Applications This chapter discusses: Defining Micro Focus COBOL Requirements Installing an FTP Server Defining Micro Focus COBOL Requirements COBOL is not needed for PeopleTools or for applications that do not contain COBOL programs. However, some applications still require COBOL. The list of applications that require COBOL is available on Platforms Supported on PeopleSoft Customer Connections. Please consult that list for application-specific COBOL requirements. If your application contains COBOL programs, you need to purchase a Micro Focus COBOL compiler for non-os/390 platforms, or an IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/os and OS/390 compiler for OS/390 and z/os platforms. See PeopleSoft Application COBOL Requirements on the PeopleSoft Customer Connection website at Implement, Optimize + Upgrade, Implementation Guide, Supported Platforms, Platform Communications, link, By Topic (located on the right-side navigation), Batch. Installing an FTP Server Some PeopleSoft applications use an FTP server to store document attachments. You must establish an FTP server with adequate disk storage to store your documents, and use the URL Maintenance page to specify the path to the appropriate FTP server. See Enterprise PeopleTools 8.48 PeopleBook: System and Server Administration. Copyright 2007, Oracle. All rights reserved. 1
