Students who participate in athletics are expected to conduct themselves in a manner, which reflects the highest standards and ideals of their team, school, and community. High personal standards of conduct are expected at all times so that teams and individuals can attain maximum achievement and set positive role models for other students and members of the community. All athletes must be good citizens demonstrating good conduct at school and in the community before being allowed to represent Crook County High School at any home or away activity. Violations of conduct, which are unbecoming of an athlete and are not specifically listed in these regulations, may lead to disciplinary action up to and including suspension or removal from the team by the head coach or the athletic director or principal. Each head coach will be responsible for determining and communicating the general training and behavioral standards of his/her activity, as preapproved by the AD or principal except as specified in these listed rules and regulations. SCHOOL GUIDELINES A. Issues of inappropriate conduct, substance abuse or other illegal activities are subject to this policy based on the OSAA athletic year, which begins on the 3 rd Monday in August and continues through the last day of the school year for students. In order to be OSAA eligible a student must have passed 5 classes the previous semester and must also be currently enrolled in and passing 5 classes. Crook County High School will recognize A, B, C, and D as passing grades. OSAA now requires that all athletes are making satisfactory progress towards graduation by earning a minimum of the following quantity of credits: incoming sophomores must have a minimum of 4 credits, incoming juniors must have a minimum of 9.5 credits, and seniors must have earned a minimum of 16 credits prior to the beginning of their senior year. 2. An eligible student must also be enrolled in at least 5 classes and must be passing 5 classes and maintaining at least a 2.00 grade point average (GPA) in the current semester. Athletes that are ineligible at the beginning of the semester will be required to do a weekly progress report for the athletic director to determine eligibility. Athletes not eligible at the end of the weekly grade check can become eligible during the next weekly period if they are passing 5 classes and have a 2.00 GPA. Grade checks will be conducted every three weeks. Ineligible athletes (athletes passing less than five classes) will not compete until they become eligible. Student athletes will need to provide written documentation proving that they are passing five classes before they can compete. Student athletes will be able to practice while they are ineligible. 3. The coach, in conjunction with the building administration, will administer this policy. This policy does not supersede the district s student discipline policies and rules. This policy must be read and signed before any student can participate in any interscholastic athletic activity, team manager or statistician. This policy is in effect from the first day a student athlete begins participation in a Crook County High School sport, throughout the remainder of his/her athletic career at CCHS. It is in effect twenty-four hours a day. Consequences outlined in this agreement will be cumulative during his/her athletic career. The intent of this policy is to assist the athlete who has or may develop a long-term alcohol or other drug problem.
