MONTGOMERY SCHOLARS ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION General Information and Instructions This application should only be completed by students who wish to be considered for the Montgomery Scholars Honors program. Students applying for general admission to Montgomery College should complete a regular application for admission. Please contact the Office of Admissions at 240-567-5039 to request a regular admissions application. Students who complete the Montgomery Scholars application do not need to complete a regular application for admission. In the event that a student is not accepted into the Montgomery Scholars program, information submitted on the Scholars application will be used to offer students regular admission to Montgomery College. Applications are due by January 14, 2011. Late submission of any required supporting materials may adversely affect consideration of your application. We will accept application materials postmarked by January 14. Applications for fall 2011 will only be considered for students who are currently enrolled in their final year of high school and who will be completing high school graduation requirements by August 2011. Applications will not be considered for students who graduated from high school prior to May/June 2011. Priority for the Montgomery Scholars program and Montgomery Scholars scholarships will be given to residents of Montgomery County. The selection committee will evaluate the Montgomery College transcript and records of high school seniors who currently attend or have previously attended Montgomery College. Applicants who are not United States citizens should submit a copy of both sides of your Permanent Resident card or Visa and I-94. Contact the Office of Admissions at 240-567-5039 for further information. If a student selected for the Montgomery Scholars Program for fall 2011 will not turn 18 years old by July 1, 2012, that student will not be able to attend the Cambridge International Summer School at the end of his or her freshman year in the Scholars program. This is due to restrictions set by the University of Cambridge. Pending funding, the student may attend Cambridge at the end of his or her sophomore year in the Montgomery Scholars program, if the student will turn 18 years old by July 1, 2013, and is in good academic standing. Contact 240-567-5039 for more information. Ability to participate in the International Summer School program at the University of Cambridge is also dependent on visa status. Application Fees Applicants may be eligible for a waiver of the application fee in cases of documented hardship. In addition, students who are designated as Maryland Distinguished Scholar, National Achievement, National Hispanic Recognition, and National Merit recipients (Finalist, Semifinalist, Honorable Mention, and Commended categories) may be eligible for an application fee waiver. Please include a copy of your certificate with your application for admission in order to receive a fee waiver. Contact the Office of Admissions at 240-567-5039 for additional information. Applicants who previously applied to Montgomery College do not need to pay the $25 application fee. Please do not send cash. Standardized Test Scores Applicants should submit official copies of their standardized test scores directly from the testing agency. Failure to send official test scores may adversely affect consideration for the program. The New SAT I Code for Montgomery College (Rockville Campus) is 5440. The ACT Code is 1723. Students should submit their official New SAT I or ACT test results from all test dates. Please do not send test scores to the Germantown or Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus if you plan to apply to the Scholars program. The selection committee will review test scores from the New SAT I, including the writing section. The committee will consider an applicant s highest scores for each of the three sections of the New SAT I (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing) from any test administration date. Applicants for the Scholars program should take the New SAT I or ACT no later than December, 2010. Test results for the SAT I taken prior to March, 2010 will be acceptable, if applicable. It is highly recommended that students submit Advanced Placement (AP), TOEFL, and SAT II scores, if applicable. Deadline: January 14, 2011
