II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: General Description: Topic: Present Perfect Progressive Tense (5-6 minutes) The Present Perfect Progressive Tense shows/describes a continuous action that has been finished at some point in the past or that was started in the past and continues to happen in the present. The action is usually of limited duration and important at the present. This tense is formed with the modal "have" or "has" (for third-person singular subjects) plus "been," plus the present participle of the verb (with an -ing ending): Examples: Pattern: Subject + has/have + been + verb(-ing) Positive Negative Question I / you / we / they I have been working. I have not been Have I been working? working. he / she / it He has been thinking. He has not been thinking. Has he been thinking? Remember: There are three situations where one can use the Present Perfect Progressive tense 1. To put emphasis on the duration of action: o She has been monitoring the construction site for three hours. 2. For actions that have recently stopped or are still going on: o I have been waiting for you just now. (recently stopped) o He has been working as a foreman since 2001. (still going on) 3. For a finished action that affects the present: o I have been planning the rennovation all year. Comprehension Check: Can you identify the situation the Present Perfect Progressive Tense is used for?
