TM

MEET CHRIS From quiet, shy, first-generation college student to self-assured, confident Student Government Association president! Chris Pineda s AACC experience challenged him to think critically in the classroom while finding his fit as a leader. You have to go beyond what you re actually here for and that s what redefined me stepping out of my box and out of my boundaries and doing something greater. We ve been helping students like Chris redefine themselves since 1961. ARE YOU READY TO REDEFINE YOURSELF? Explore our wide range of degree options, excel in athletics or the arts, find your niche in a student club and get real-world experience through our extensive internship programs. Check out more student testimonies at www.aacc.edu/redefine.

THROUGH ATHLETICS Love sports? So do we! AACC is home to a vibrant and competitive intercollegiate athletics program including many nationally ranked teams which has produced nine All- Americans in the past two years. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, AACC recently received a statewide sportsmanship award for a second consecutive year and four student-athletes were named Academic Athletes of Distinction for outstanding scholarship. ON STAGE If performing arts appeals to you, we offer opportunities to participate in dance, theater, opera, choral groups, classical and jazz music, and more. Don t forget behind-the-scenes responsibilities, too, including building sets, designing costumes, setting lights and many other ways to experience the arts firsthand.

IN MORE THAN 80 STUDENT CLUBS You ll have a hard time finding an area of interest that isn t available through a variety of clubs and performing and special interest groups that literally run A-Z (well, OK, A-W Amateur Radio Club to World Music Club and everything in between). AS A LEADER The Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Phi Theta Kappa and the many student-run organizations let you take the lead. Who knows? You might even want to join the board of trustees as a student member, since AACC is one of the few colleges with a voting student on the governing body of the school.

WITH FELLOW STUDENTS College is about more than classes! Whether you re looking to hit the gym, join a club, play a sport or share a coffee, you ll make lots of friends at AACC. Our rich and diverse student life gives you the opportunity to meet fellow students with similar interests and dreams. THROUGH INTERNSHIPS An internship is an adventure and an advantage that yields many great benefits. You can go beyond classroom theory and the traditional classroom environment to explore a career and gain on-the-job training while still earning college credit toward your degree.

BY DISCOVERING YOUR PASSION We want you to find an area of study and a career path that will carry you into the future. With so many ways to get engaged in college life, and so many people ready to help you discover your talents and interests, AACC offers you the opportunity to turn the vision of your future into reality.

REDEFINE YOURSELF WITH A SEAMLESS TRANSFER Here s some good news: We have credits you can bank on! Every Maryland state college requires a series of general education credits as directed by Maryland law. For that reason, each AACC associate degree includes 34 general education credits (roughly 12 classes). That means the general education courses you take at AACC can transfer to any Maryland public university you choose Bowie State, Frostburg State, Salisbury, Towson, UMBC, UMD, UMUC your choice. Save money and time by working with one of our academic advisors to help you select your classes carefully and ensure a seamless transfer.

THROUGH AWARD- WINNING PROGRAMS AACC has won numerous national, regional and state awards that put us on par with many four-year colleges. You ll find cutting-edge programs in cybersercurity, mechatronics (mechanical engineering and electronics), computer gaming, robotics and many more emerging and growing fields. WITH HELP FROM OUTSTANDING FACULTY With a student to teacher ratio of 18:1, you ll receive personalized attention from faculty who care about your success. Rather than relying on teaching assistants working toward a master s degree, many of our programs are taught by faculty who are highly experienced in their fields and hold doctorate degrees.

WITH STUDENT SUCCESS SERVICES From one-on-one tutoring and career counseling to writing assistance and academic advising, we offer a wide range of academic, career and individualized services that will help you grow as a student and as a person. Regardless of where you are in your educational or professional journey, we can help you achieve your goals. AND SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS In 2013, the average family spent more than $21,000 per year on college. At AACC, we can cut that figure by more than 80 percent! Think of the savings and return on investment by starting here before moving on to your next college or career opportunity. We also offer financial aid, scholarships and an interest-free tuition payment plan to help make college truly affordable. Don t forget you can save money by taking college classes while you re still in high school, too!

THROUGH CONVENIENT TRANSFER OPTIONS As part of the Maryland state system, AACC general education classes transfer to any state college in Maryland. We also have transfer agreements with more than 30 colleges nationwide. Through our AACC University Consortium with select state schools, you even can earn a four-year degree without having to leave the county. AND FLEXIBLE CLASS SCHEDULING Many students choose to work and go to school at the same time, so we provide a wide range of class options. Traditional daytime classes can be found at our Arnold campus as well as the Glen Burnie and Arundel Mills locations. Evening and weekend classes are offered at multiple sites around the county. We also offer online classes and a hybrid format which combines online classes with face-to-face instruction for added convenience.

BY GAINING REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE At the heart of our educational philosophy is application to the real world. We go beyond theory to offer hands-on opportunities that many first- and second-year students won t find at other colleges until their senior year or even after they graduate. THROUGH OUR DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN THESE AREAS: AACC offers 54 degrees and 62 certificates in five schools: The School of Business and Law. The School of Health Sciences. The School of Liberal Arts. The School of Science and Technology. The School of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

HOW TO GET STARTED HERE ARE THREE EASY STEPS TO GET YOU READY FOR AACC: 1. PREPARE FOR COLLEGE The best way to prepare for college is to focus on your high school studies and come ready to work hard. Taking classes at AACC during high school can help you make a smooth transition, and the credits you earn while in high school will apply to college. ACADEMIC PLACEMENT Like most colleges, AACC accepts SAT and ACT scores for admission, but unlike some colleges, those scores are not required to enroll. If you choose not to submit these test scores, you will need to take placement tests at AACC before enrolling. We strongly encourage you to study prior to those tests to help you get into your preferred classes and academic programs. APPLY The first step is to fill out an application. There is no application fee and no obligation to attend once the application is completed. Plus, you will not have to reapply at any time in the future, even if you choose to attend after graduating from high school. Your application will create a student account that gives you access to student services. 2. PAY FOR COLLEGE College today can be expensive. That s why AACC is the smart choice since we can save you thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars for your first two years. Financial aid packages and federal student loans are available to eligible families to further ease the cost of a higher education. To determine how much money you might receive in aid, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be found at fafsa.ed.gov. To estimate in advance how much you might receive, consider using the FAFSA4Caster at studentaid.ed.gov/fafsa/estimate. AACC also offers a wide array of scholarships and an interest-free payment plan that allows you to spread out your payments over the course of a semester. Some students also find they want to work part time while attending college. Our flexible and convenient schedules, including online and hybrid courses, allow you to balance work and classes, giving you the added ability to help pay for school. 3. SELECT THE PROGRAM THAT S RIGHT FOR YOU Once you have applied, determined the costs, and scheduled or completed your placement tests, you ll want to see an advisor about selecting a program that s right for you. Not ready to decide on a field of study? No problem. College provides you the opportunity to explore and discover your talents and the fields of study that match your skills. At AACC, you even can choose a transfer studies track that consists of general education courses accepted by many fouryear colleges. NOW IT S TIME TO ENROLL AND TACKLE YOUR FUTURE!

MORE ABOUT COMPLETING A FOUR-YEAR PROGRAM WHETHER CONTINUING IN-STATE OR OUT-OF-STATE, AACC IS A GREAT PLACE TO BEGIN YOUR FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY JOURNEY. If a four-year degree is where you are headed, AACC makes it easy to get there. By state law, all general education courses must transfer to any state college within the University System of Maryland. Not only will that save you lots of money while getting a quality education at AACC, it gives you a seamless transition to your next school. For example, the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program is designed specifically to help community college students transfer to the University of Maryland, while the UMBC Transfer Student Alliance and the UMUC Alliance Program help AACC students transfer to their schools. Also, thanks to our AACC University Consortium, you can complete some degree programs through Frostburg, McDaniel, Notre Dame of Maryland, Stevenson and UMUC without even leaving the county! In 2013 these were our most popular Maryland universities to receive AACC transfer students. University of Maryland University College Towson University University of Maryland, Baltimore County University of Maryland, College Park University of Baltimore Stevenson University Salisbury University Bowie State University Morgan State University Notre Dame of Maryland University Frostburg State University University of Maryland, Baltimore Looking to go out of state? AACC students transfer to universities in more than 27 states and the District of Columbia each year. Thanks to agreements we have with colleges all over the country, you have many transfer options.

GET STARTED TODAY 1. APPLY As with all colleges, we require an application to get you started, but we ve made this one pretty easy to follow. Online is best, but we ll take a paper application too. 2. TAKE THE PLACEMENT TEST Provide ACT or SAT scores or take the Accuplacer test. If you choose to take the free placement test, be sure to study first. Your performance will help determine which classes you will be eligible to take. 3. MEET WITH AN ADVISOR Meet with an advisor to select the classes that meet your goals. Our advisors also can help you with transfer plans and career ambitions. 4. REGISTER FOR CLASSES Online, by mail or in person. Again, if you re planning to transfer, it helps to talk with us first to make sure you take the classes you ll need in the future. FAST FACTS With award-winning instructors and a dynamic, diverse student body, you ll discover an affordable, first-rate education isn t just in your backyard it s a whole lot of fun!
