STORYJUMPER TRAINING GUIDE - Introduction StoryJumper Book Publisher Help your students make their stories come to life. After the writing process is complete use StoryJumper to allow students to publish books online in a fun and creative way. The site allows you to manage and review your students work. It enables the students to share their work in class and at home. You can maintain control over the student information. StoryJumper Class Set-Up Class Set-Up Click on My (top tool bar) Type in Classroom Screen Name Choose Password for All Student Access Type in Duration (this is for security purposes), explanation below: Why duration? StoryJumper wants to ensure a student's privacy is maintained at all times. Setting class duration significantly decreases the chance for students in a shared computing environment (e.g. computer lab) to accidentally or intentionally access other students' accounts. Enter student names Passwords can be auto created or you can assign them to students Click on Save You can enter more students by clicking on ADD MORE to add new students 2

Student Access Sheets Go to My Classes Click on My Click on Print Students will see School and Home Directions Their Class ID Screen Name Password The password is the class password you created for the class. It will be the same for everyone. STORYJUMPER School and Home Access 3

Starting the Class Click on My Click on Start for the Class The students will have the amount of time you have selected to work on the project and then it will automatically save their work and turn off. This helps to make sure that students do not leave their stories open, etc. STORYJUMPER Starting Class Students will type in the website address on their sheet Enter the class ID Click on their name Type in the Class Password Click on Create 4

STORYJUMPER Beginning and Cover Page Beginning the Story Click on Create Click on type of book (you may have given your students directions on which type to choose or they can build from scratch) You can show a quick video or tutorial to the students before you begin the Youtube video is about 6 minutes Book Cover and Pages Click on the Book Cover to create Cover of the Book Click on Dedication to create inside flap Click on page 1 to begin the story Click to page 2, etc. Run out of pages click on New Page Click on Delete Page to delete Click on Scenes to create the backgrounds for the pages You can create pictures on what side and text on the other 5

Creating the Story Click on the Scenes to create the backgrounds Click on props to add people, objects to the story Click on Photos to upload photos you have on a jump drive on your computer Click on text to add the story, titles or captions You can search for different items by click on More Props, etc. and typing in the item you want to search for STORYJUMPER Creating Story, Scenes, Props CLICK SAVE AT THE BOTTOM 6

STORYJUMPER Text and Tools TEXT Text changes similar to Word Type in text for the story Change the Font and Size Change to Bold, italic Change Font color Center, Right Justify Delete Control Panel Top Right Hand Corner Click on boxes for viewing right or left side of page Click on Blue Triangle to Flip Scene Move button up to make the picture larger or smaller Click on Save before exiting Click on Logout when done REMEMBER whatever you set the time it will logout for students when the time is up and SAVE their work. In the upper right hand corner you see the time remaining 7

Reviewing Class Stories Click on My Click on Class Name STORYJUMPER Reviewing Stories Students stories will display Click on the Story to view Click on Read Flip through the story Print a copy Keep setting private and no one can view 8

STORYJUMPER TIPS AND IDEAS TIPS AND IDEAS Scroll Down on the Home Page Click on Classroom Edition Quick Guide Quick Guide gives you story ideas, lesson ideas and quick guide to get started PARENTS You can allow you parents access to the stories by following the directions you printed out at the beginning Parents can order the books online through their own account Students can share these stories with grandparents, etc. from this account SAFE AND PRIVATE only those that you give access can see the story 9
