The purpose of offering a sports program at SLFS is to foster school unity, and pride. It is our policy to expect fair treatment of all athletes and to inform all interested persons of the various roles and responsibilities of those involved in and supporting the program. The Athletic Director requires all coaches, parents, and student athletes to read this handbook carefully, and confirming they understand, and agree to abide by signing an attestation at the end. PRACTICES Practices are typically held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays as well as any other days scheduled by the coach. Practices are typically held from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm unless otherwise indicated by the coach. Athletes are expected to attend every practice throughout the given season. Unexcused absences from practice will result in a warning for the first offence and being benched for the next game after successive offenses. The point of this policy is to ensure consistency and positive development among the players. COMPETITIONS All Athletes are expected to attend every game during a given season and must stay until dismissed by a coach. Athletes are responsible for ensuring that they have transportation to and from Sporting Events. ATHLETIC CODE OF CONDUCT A student-athlete is bound by the Saint Louis of France School Athletic Code of Conduct, both inside and outside of school hours. Whether participating in practice, games, or other team activities, he or she must uphold the values of our school. Our student athletes are expected to embody and follow these principles at all times. SPORTSMANSHIP Always remember that coaches and athletes are representing St. Louis of France School both on and off the court and field. Coaches and athletes must put forth a positive image for our school and our sports program. Coaches always set an example for their players, so they should
think before they act. Unsportsmanlike behavior by coaches or athletes will not be tolerated. Coaches must set high expectations for their athletes behavior and have consequences if those expectations are not met. BEHAVIOR Student athletes assume the obligation to appear in public appropriately dressed and to engage in behavior that shows dignity to their school, team, and community. Disruptive behavior, in or out of school, may result in suspension from the athletic program. In keeping to our Catholic Identity, behavior that does not reflect our beliefs regarding behavior, respect, and the treatment of others will not be tolerated. EJECTION FROM A GAME OR EVENT Ejection from a game or event is a serious offense. If a player is ejected from any contest, he or she will be required to sit out the next game. A second ejection will cause a dismissal from the team. If a player is ever ejected from a game, he or she will be required to turn in a written statement explaining their actions, and will have a follow-up discussion with the Athletic Director. ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY Eligibility rules require that all student athletes maintain a 2.5 GPA during the previous semester to be eligible for an upcoming season.
