To acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organizational skills valued both within and beyond the workplace. To acquire underpinning knowledge and skills related to work, employment and further training. What is VET? The Vocational Education and Training courses provides opportunities for our boys To gain experiences that can be applied in a range of contexts, including work, study and leisure To receive formal VET sector qualifications awarded for the achievement of competencies recognized by industry. To make informed career choices and improve transition from school to work 8

Why choose VET? o Providing Skills and Opportunity Provides hands-on training skills and qualifications for all types of employment They appeal to the interest and aptitudes of young people by maximizing their individual talents and capabilities for further education and training & lifelong learning Provides and reflects the realities of the jobs market and its shifting demands for skills and training 9

Why choose VET? o Providing Skills and Opportunity Research shows that students who undertake VET as part of their HSC have better job prospects through the development of practical related skills that will make them more employable VET courses offered by the School are at the Certificate 2 level the qualifications you need if you are just entering the workforce, and a good foundation for further training The course will seek to help appropriate boys to develop industry-recognized skills & engage in practical & meaningful education while 10 studying at Trinity

What qualifications do you want when you finish Year 12 I want the HSC and industry recognized certificates that are accepted all over Australia 11

TEEP providing skills & opportunities 14

TEEP providing opportunities. Our TEEP boys also engage in the Community Service Programme with the Exodus Foundation in Ashfield to improve their specific ongoing workplace and community-based learning options in hospitality training and helping with the Multilit programme to help support the existing volunteers with the early intervention literacy programmes for Years 5 and 6 primary students. 15

Work placement Opportunities. Enhances the skills that students learn in the classroom by participating in a real workplace and provides on the job training. Provide students studying an industry-based VET course to practise & develop their industry competencies & employability skills in a real work environment. Provide placement opportunity within a quality employer workplace. 16

Work Placement Opportunities Work placement is structured learning in the workplace & is part of the VET assessment program for the course Progress towards the achievement of industry competencies Develop appropriate attitudes towards work Learn a range of behaviours appropriate to the industry Practise the skills acquired in the classroom *Many students receive Traineeships, Apprenticeships, part- time or fulltime employment as a result of successful work placements. *A successful work placement can sometimes lead to future employment of 19 that company.

Work placement Achievement Hayden Wright (Class of 2011) was recognised and received a student award for his excellent participation and commitment whilst on work placement in Electrotechnology with 21st Century Electrical. The 21 st Century Electrical Director Mr Paul Morched was very impressed with Hayden s attitude towards work and industry competencies in developing on the job skills during his work placement. 20

Work placement Achievement Logan Bell (Class of 2011) studied Electrotechnology VET course as part of his HSC. Logan achieved a successful work placement with Electromaster Holdings and was offered an Apprenticeship to join the company. Irene Calvarias, Director of Electromaster Holdings said Logan worked with our team at the Bondi Beach House Project in developing on the job skills during his work placement. We found Logan to be punctual and well mannered young man and his persistence and attitude towards work was very good. 21

How can TEEP Benefit our Boys TEEP Reflection: From our current TEEP boys, this has provided meaningful experiences aimed at applying knowledge and real world application towards the improvement of their performance within and beyond the workplace. Reflection from Mitchell Hancock (Year 12) 23

Providing Skills and Pathway Opportunities The VET courses offered by the School are at the Certificate 2 level the qualifications you need if you are just entering the workforce. TEEP has proven itself invaluable for a number of new boys to our Community TEEP has brought a number of new boys to our community. Brent decided to join the School because of the flexibility of tailoring the TEEP structure to suit his skills and provide an alternative pathway to work and further education. Sport is also a very important part of Brent s life and the TEEP programme will allow him to still do well academically and also provide a great sporting opportunity. Zac decided to join the School because of the customised TEEP course offering will allow him to play to his strengths in practical learning. 25

TEEP has proven itself invaluable for a number of new boys to our Community TEEP has brought a number of new boys to our community. Both Rowland Kotobalavu and Connor Finn decided to join the School because of the flexibility of tailoring the TEEP structure to suit there skills and provide an alternative pathway to work and further education. We welcome both Rowland and Connor to the School and congratulate them on there decision to join the TEEP community at Trinity. 26

Lighting and sound production companies, traveling road shows, video editing jobs in television and advertising, 31 roles in event management

What other course do I need to take? Course Content? ENGLISH (Studies) 2 Units each for Yr 11 & Yr 12 Provides students with the opportunity to explore, analyze, question and articulate the ways in which perceptions are shaped in and through a variety of texts Course Content? Provides students more intensive tuition in English. It integrates the modes of language to improve students understanding of the forms, features, structures and functions of language. 34

What other course do I need to take? MATHS (Applied) 2 Units each for Yr 11 & Yr 12 Course Content? Provides students with a strong foundation for vocational pathways: Mathematics and Communication Mathematics and Design Mathematics and Driving Mathematics and Household Finance Mathematics and the Human Body Mathematics and Resource Usage THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE Taken in Yr 12 Course Content? Provides students to be aware of themselves as thinkers. Encouraging our boys to become more acquainted with the complexity of knowledge. Recognize the need to act responsibly in an increasingly 35 interconnected but uncertain world.

TEEP COURSE STRUCTURE All boys in the TEEP programme will need to select a minimum of 12 units which include MANDATORY COURSES: (total 6 units) English Studies (2 Units) Applied Mathematics (2 Units) Business Services (2 Units taken in Yr 11) SCHOOL BASED COURSES: Theory of Knowledge (taken in Yr 12) Christian Studies (compulsory for all boys) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELECTIVE COURSES (total 6 units) Boys will need to choose one of the following two options: OPTION A 2 VET courses (2 Units each) + 1 other HSC course offered by the School (2 Units) OPTION B 3 VET courses (2 Units each) OR 36

Why Choose TEEP! TEEP outcomes: TEEP is an instructional course that will encourage & engage students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that boys can carry with them throughout their lifetimes. Effective industry work placements can make students more engaged in their learning because they are hard wired to respond & improve transition from school to work. VET courses promotes metacognition and self-regulated learning & hands-on training which provides a link between education & the working world. TEEP can provide meaningful experiences aimed at students applying knowledge and real world application toward the improvement of their performance within and beyond the workplace. 37

How can I be involved in TEEP from Term 4.. FIRSTLY talk to mum/dad & decide if TEEP is the right option for you? If YES, you will need to fill-in the TEEP Selection form and submit your form to the Director of Studies office no later than Friday 1 June 2012. Any enquires on TEEP can be made to myself or to our experienced teachers at the school. I am hoping to see you in TEEP from TERM 4. Thank you for your time. 38
