Staff Iijima Homestay has a dedicated and creative teaching staff; composed of consistently excellent practitioners with high expectations for students achievement and who will support Iijima Homestay students in their learning to develop the key skills of independence and perseverance. Virma I m an enthusiastic ESL and preschool teacher who uses a lot of fun, kid friendly, hands on, multi-sensory and creative activities, always aiming for children to achieve their best. I have 12 years experience as an ESL teacher in international and Japanese public elementary and junior high schools, with 4 of those years as a pre-school teacher in international schools in Tokyo. I have also taught TOEIC and business level English classes in Tokyo and worked in a pre-school here in the UK. I have completed numerous trainings in ESL (English as a Second Language) and EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and I possess a paediatric first aid certification. James I m easy going and enjoy playing with children. I have worked in Tokyo as a pre-school and after school teacher where I created fun, interactive activities that the children loved to get involved with. I have a degree and history in computer games and animation and believe in the importance of technology in learning. With proper guidance, these tools can hugely enhance a child s ability to learn and give them skills that are essential in today's world. Katie I like to take a more hands on and fun approach to teaching, while establishing a good rapport with the children. I used to go into schools and run really exciting activity sessions in science and engineering to encourage children to get into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects. Jenni I have always loved working closely with children. I m a qualified nursery nurse but after having my own children, I became a registered child minder. I was a child minder for over 25 years. I enjoy allowing the children express themselves and show their creativity, especially through arts and crafts. I also love to read with them and take them out to observe and experience the world around them. Tin Tin I am a right mixture of a jolly, caring and competent nurse. I have a vast experience with first aid and advanced clinical practice and have practiced my profession as a nurse for more than 7 years. I also spent a couple of years working with ESL students functioning both as a teacher and a nurse. We, the teaching staff, develop all aspects of Iijima Homestay through team-working and having the ability to make a full contribution to our curriculum and team.
