Parents can join an adult class while their children are taught in small groups by our experienced teachers. We offer a full children s Who is the course for? The course is open to families and carers who would like to take a study holiday with children from the age of three and above. afternoon activity programme, and we have year-round availability. Families can stay with a local family via Homestay, in a self-catering flat or house, or in a hotel or bed-and-breakfast accommodation. The maximum class size is ten, and the same for juniors and children. The minimum course duration is one week. 3 Younger learners (aged between 6 and 15) LanguageUK is a school for students aged 16 and above. When we receive families, the adults take a course with us and the children and young learners take their courses separately. All the tutors are qualified English teachers and have DBS clearance, an obligatory criminal record check for everyone working with children in the UK. Our tutors are all local and will meet you at the school on the Monday morning. The classes All the classes hold a maximum of ten students and take place on the East Kent College campus, where LanguageUK is based. The course includes: 15 hours of study per week. Daily lunch in the East Kent College canteen. Afternoon activities, trips and project work (optional). The activities, which are very varied, are organised according to who is attending the class, their age and skills level, as well as any events that might be going on in the local area at the time. Typically, trips and activities include: Visits to historical buildings, cities or local museums. Attendance at local community events, such as Broadstairs Folk Week and the Charles Dickens Festival. Beach sports, such as beach volleyball, football and athletics.
4 Levels and ages We would not mix children who have advanced and beginner levels and we try to put the children into small groups according to their age and a good nationality balance. Most of the children and young learners who have studied with us before are elementary to intermediate level. Our courses are not academic in that the children would not be covering mountains of grammar and vocabulary in the normal classroom environment. However, for the older children we do include some formal instruction. We do not test the children and our aims are not to re-create the same classroom environment the children might be used to back home. Child minding We can arrange a qualified child carer for very young children under the age of five in their own home, which is pre-inspected and approved by LanguageUK. We aim to: Give children the opportunity to enjoy an immersive English experience, where the language used by the tutor during the breaks, between the classroom activities and outside the actual class instruction is as important as the formal education. Present and provide interesting projects to encourage children s participation so they learn vocabulary and grammar usage through the practice of authentic activities such as cooking, shopping for food, projects on historical places visited during the afternoons, keeping a diary, playing games and so on. Learn, but have fun. We want the children to return home having had a positive and memorable experience. Child minders offer the children a home environment with a maximum of five other children. The child minder will also provide lunch.
