Getting Started Introduction What is Wimba Pronto? Wimba Pronto is an instant messaging service that integrates with a Course Management System (CMS), allowing students and instructors to easily communicate with other people in their classes. The Wimba Pronto service is made available through a Building Block, installed on the CMS, and a desktop application installed on a student's or an instructor's local machine. After logging in to the CMS, a student or instructor can click any Wimba Pronto link to create his or her Wimba Pronto account, as well as download the Wimba Pronto desktop client. Once a Wimba Pronto account has been created, and the desktop application has been installed, the Wimba Pronto client displays a list of other people using Wimba Pronto in these courses. Wimba Pronto users can then contact one another via instant message, conduct audio and video calls, collaborate with whiteboard and application sharing, and communicate within group chats, Office Hours, and Help Desks. Administrators can also send institution-wide broadcast notifications for important announcements. About the Wimba Pronto Server Registration and Configuration Process All new versions of Blackboard come with the Wimba Pronto Building Block pre-installed. This means that you do not need to download and install the Building Block on your Blackboard server to user Wimba Pronto. All you need to do to use Pronto is register your Blackboard server with Wimba and then configure the Building Block with your account information. Then you can create your first account and begin using Wimba Pronto right away. Notes: a) If you are using an older version of Blackboard that does not already have the Wimba Pronto Building Block installed, see the Wimba Pronto 3.0 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information on the installation process. b) Video Calling, Whiteboard, Application Sharing, Office Hours, Help Desks, and Broadcast Notifications are not available in Wimba Pronto Basic. 1
