Mission High School Ariana Pena placed 4 th and SUPERIOR Rating on her project at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show on Saturday, March 12. Mission High School FFA Chapter represented the campus well with spirit, showmanship, dedication, cleanliness, presentation, and total dedication to the FFA Program and its leadership building opportunities. Students under the supervision of Mr. B. Garza, Ms. C. Saenz, and Mr. M. Villarreal excelled throughout the livestock with many awards, honors, and distinctions. MISSION HIGH SCHOOL FBLA Places Two at Texas FBLA State Leadership Conference Attending Nationals in Atlanta, GA in June 2016 Yvette Cazares and Gerardo Hernandez, Mission High School FBLA chapter members, placed 4th in Word Processing and 4 th in Database Design and Application, respectively, at the Texas FBLA State Leadership Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston, TX on March 3 5, 2016. Yvette and Gerardo now qualify to attend and compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference to be held in Atlanta, GA from June 27 to July 03, 2016. Yvette Cazares was named Who s Who in Texas FBLA. Ramiro J. O caña, adviser, was recognized for 36 years of service to FBLA. The Mission FBLA chapter was recognized for 100% Endowment fund participation and for helping with the March of Dimes. The Word Processing event consists of two-parts: a one-hour online exam consisting of objective-type questions related to the application knowledge of Word Processing concepts; and a one-hour production test. The Database Design and Application event consists of two-parts: a one-hour online consisting of objectivetype questions related to the application knowledge of Database Design and Applications concepts; and a one-hour production test. A total of 8 members represented the Mission High School FBLA Chapter at the State competition. Other members attending the State Conference were: Diego Bustillos, Rebeca Gomez, Jay Reta-Cordoba, Dante Rodriguez, Marco Silva, and Pedro Silva. Members attended a variety of workshops, exhibits, a general session, voting and recognition sessions, and the Installation of State Officers/Awards of Excellence Program. Mr. Ramiro J. O caña, Mission High School FBLA Adviser, and Ms. Corinna Ortiz, guest chaperone, accompanied the group. Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization for high school students preparing for careers in business occupations. Its college counterpart is Phi Beta Lambda (PBL). The FBLA National theme is CONNECT.

Mission High School Our high school and junior high FRC Robotics Team recently competed at the nationals FRC competition during the week of March 8-12. The students competed with teams around the world and throughout the nation. Although our MHS/AMJH FRC Robotics Team did not make it to the World Competitions, they took ONE GIANT STEP for robotic innovation, programming, competition, creativity, and development for Mission CISD. The team was TOP 25 in Offensive Power Rating and Highest Rookie Offensive Team. The MHS/AMJH FRC Robotics Team looks forward to next year s competition with enthusiasm, experience, more preparation, and POSSIBILITIES. Former World Competitors and this year s Chairman Award team from the Woodlands has agreed to mentor our upcoming FUTURE MAKERS in preparation for next year s FRC Competition. On Thursday, March 10, The Mission High School College Awareness Club visited Texas A&M- Corpus Christi and Texas A&M- Kingsville to encourage students in making smart decisions when selecting a university to attend. Altogether, twenty six seniors attended the university visit with several students already accepted to attend the universities visited. The students toured the dorms, recreation facilities, student services, and were hosted by former Mission High School alumni. During the next couple of weeks, students will work on an activity comparing the pros and cons of each school for their intended field of study.. On Tuesday evening, March 15, the Mission Lady Eagles Soccer Team defeated LJ Juarez-Lincoln by the score of 4-3. The game was contested by both teams throughout every minute if each half. The game was decided on penalty kicks. Congratulations to Coach J. Gil, Coach A. Zamora, Coach C. Garcia, and Coach V. Salinas. ON Thursday evening, March 17, the Lady Eagles Softball Team defeated Rio Hondo by the score of 14-13. The Nail-biter was intense with a lot of offensive and crucial defensive stops needed in order to win the game. The Lady Eagles bounce back from a loss on Tuesday evening, March 15, to the Lady Coyotes from La Joya HS. The girls continue to excel in District 30-6A and look forward to facing the strength of the schedule in preparation for the playoffs.

Mission High School Tabitha Gonzalez placed 7 th in state at the State Powerlifting Championships while Stephanie Gonzalez placed 2 nd in her weight class. Both ladies have dedicated countless hours in the weight room with the sole premises of making and excelling at the state level of powerlifting competition. The girls were coached by Rogelio Pena III, until his departure, Coach Mario Pena Jr. and Coach Edna Clemons. The Mission HS Powerlifting Program hopes to use this accomplishment as a catalyst for future and more participation at the state level. GOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!! We had 12 students from MHS compete at the TMSCA State competition. They are the following: 12 th grade Ricardo Yruegas (Calculator Applications) Jin Gao (Mathematics, Science) Katherine McKenna (Mathematics, Science) Peter Silva (Mathematics) Tiana Rivas (Mathematics) 11 th grade Edgar Garza (Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Science) Samantha Alaniz (Calculator Applications) Kimberly Ramon (Calculator Applications) 10 th grade Alyssa Garza (Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Science) 9 th grade Alejandro Hernandez (Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Science) Enrique Elizondo (Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Science) Alexander Gonzalez (Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, Science) Our Calculator Applications team earned 9 th place in the state, continuing to make Mission proud. Ricardo Yruegas and Edgar Garza ended up in top 20 in their respective grades. Alejandro Hernandez, a new addition to our team, tied for tenth place in the state. Combining all the events together our Mathlete team earned 16 th place in the state 6A division. Mission High School The Mission Eagles Baseball Team defeated the La Joya Coyotes on Tuesday evening, March 22, by the score of 7-3. The team was led by great pitching, outstanding defensive play, and consistent hitting. The team is coached by Coach R. Lozano, Coach L. Salinas Jr., Coach D. Mann, and Coach M. Salinas. Mission High School FFA Member, Amanda Granados experienced a tremendous year of success with her Brahman Heifer named NBS MISS 3 Diamond 245/5 also nick named LANA. Amanda and Lana earned multiple awards throughout the show season. This school year and livestock show season they won the following awards at numerous livestock shows. Three Breed Championships, one Reserve Breed Champion, one 2 nd place and one 3 rd place ranking. Amanda and Lana won 1 st place at 5 different livestock shows including the prestigious San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo in February. Amanda is a Junior at Mission High School and a proud member of the Mission High School FFA Chapter. Lana is a Pure Breed Brahman Heifer and comes from EL Salinas Ranch out of Mission, TX. Veterans Memorial High School On March 19, 7 students traveled to the "Texas Math and Science Coached Association" (TMSCA) State meet for Mathematics, Calculators, Number Sense, and Science. The following students participated: Hector Iglesias, Kimberly Garza, Gabriel Lozoya, Kellen Shults, Andres Vasquez, Emily Salinas, and Michael Iglesias. Our school placed 11th overall out of 28 schools in the 5A division. We also placed 7th for team in Calculators with the team consisting of Kimberly Garza (11th grade), Hector Iglesias (12th grade), Michael Iglesias (9th grade), and Emily Salinas (10th grade). We also had a couple individuals that placed in their grade level. Kimberly Garza got 2nd place for 11th grade Calculators, Emily Salinas got 10th place for 10th grade calculators, and Michael Iglesias scored 8th place for 9th grade Calculators. Hector Iglesias got 1st place for 12th grade Mathematics. Overall, our team did great and the students really enjoyed the trip. It gave us a good idea of our competition for our district meet on April 2nd, which will be hosted here at VMHS. A Teachers vs. Students basketball game was hosted by Student Council on Thursday, March 10 th. The game was very exciting, and the students outscored the teachers to claim their victory. Several groups were recently recognized by the MCISD Board of Trustees. HOSA and DECA are pictured with their sponsors.

Veterans Memorial High School Mission Veterans Memorial FFA Exhibitors VMHS FFA MEMBERS EARN SCHOLARSHIPS, SHINY BUCKLES, PREMIUM MONEY, AND EXCELLENCE AWARD Preparing for a livestock show and raising a project takes lots of hard work and commitment. The students from the Veterans Memorial FFA chapter showed that their hard work paid off these past few days. On March 2-5 the Veterans Memorial FFA attended the South Texas Agriculture Roundup (STAR) Show in Edinburg, where numerous of the FFA students did an awesome job representing the chapter. K. White Jr. High School We concluded our Texas Public School Week with Open House and a Health Fair. It was a very successful event. We had over 35 agencies ranging from pharmacies to hospitals. Our parents and teachers took advantage of the free services and information. Mrs. Rodriguez did a great job organizing the event. We ended the Relay for Life: Coins for the Cure fundraiser on March 11 th. The competition between the grade levels helped to motivate the students and teachers. 7 th graders were able to take the win! Team Valeria continues to grow. We have invited the parents of our student Valeria to join us on April 2 nd at Relay for Life. Hawk Divas and Cheerleading tryout practices started this week for their tryout on Thursday. Lots of excitement amongst the girls to show off their school spirit. Salinas Elementary School The Salinas students participated in the scheduled district wide AR STAR testing. On March 22, 2016 parents from Salinas Elementary participated in an informative parent meeting led by our Special Programs (testing, counseling, nurse). On March 29 th & 30 th, 2016students in 4 th and 5 th grades will take their STAAR test. On March 31, 2016 the Salinas Millionaires will go on their reward trip to the bowling alley. On March 24, 2016 the students in grades PK through 1 st grade will take part in their annual Easter Egg hunt.

Waitz Elementary School Students and staff are gearing up for the upcoming STAAR assessments. Fourth and fifth grade students will be testing next week. Students reviewed their testing strategies with their teachers. Staff received their STAAR administration training. STAAR Testing.
