About BLACKBOARD STORE About Blackboard Store Building Block The integrated Blackboard virtual bookstore allows instructors to search for and adopt course materials. Students can see a comprehensive list of all necessary course materials and make purchases from directly within the Blackboard Learn platform. The Blackboard Store Building Block provides three tools: Course Materials Hub: A faculty center for researching course materials, collecting digital and physical resources into adoption lists, and sharing those lists with students and colleagues. The Course Materials Hub is available to all clients, whether or not they have an agreement in place with the Blackboard Store to provide their course materials. Blackboard Store: Presents students with a list of their course materials available for purchase. Blackboard Bookshelf TM : Includes an advanced e-reader, digital bookshelf and mobile compatibility. The Blackboard Store is compatible with Blackboard Learn Release 9.1 Service Pack 10 and higher. It is bundled with R9.1 201410 and higher. It is Blackboard s goal to embed this virtual bookstore into the Blackboard Learn interface and make it a core part of the technology. The Partner Cloud Building Block must be properly installed prior to the installation of the Blackboard Store Building Block. You can find documentation for the Partner Cloud Building Block at Behind Blackboard or https://blackboard.secure.force.com/btbb_articleview?id=ka070000000pdxn. A new feature of the Blackboard Store version 1.3 1 is for students who are enrolled but who do not yet have a Blackboard Learn account. This new feature enables them to order course materials online. In the section titled The Blackboard Store User Interface you can find details on how this feature works. Benefits For Institutions Increased textbook and material adoption Better integration between courses and supporting content Increased usage of technology investment Incremental revenue from the 50% of students currently spending in non-institutional channels For Faculty Easier student textbook and material adoption Ability to search for books and materials, store and organize links, record your evaluation and collect materials that you might want to incorporate into a future course Access to ratings for books Streamlined processes for communicating course material changes/updates with the bookstore For Students Personalized buying experience and increased convenience due to integrated materials list and onestop shop functionality Diverse offering of used, rental, new and e-textbooks all in one location with known savings Lower prices for print textbooks Guaranteed print buyback options Administrator Guide for Blackboard Store and Blackboard Bookshelf Page 4

Increased convenience of storing all digital content in one location 24/7 service About the Blackboard Store Integration To deliver this fully integrated commerce-based service, Blackboard partnered with MBS Direct, the industry leader in providing virtual bookstores with comprehensive print and digital inventories of required course materials. Founded in 1992, MBS Direct, LLC is the nation s premier, internet based, course material provider. MBS Direct partners with nearly 950 educational institutions for innovative bookstore services. During the last 12 months, MBS Direct serviced nearly 1 million students, processed over 1.8 million orders, and shipped over 5 million items in partnership with client institutions. Using the URL provided by Blackboard, download the Blackboard Store Building Block. Once the Blackboard Store Building Block has been downloaded follow these steps to install, activate and configure the Building Block. Note: If the Building Block is being reinstalled make sure to DELETE your current version of the Blackboard Store before reinstalling. You can find instructions within this document for uninstalling the Building Block. If you choose to uninstall and reinstall the Blackboard Store Building Block any of the settings associated with the components of the Building Block will need to be setup again. So when you uninstall the Building Block all settings associated with the Building Block are lost and must be reconfigured when reinstalled. 3. Check the Partner Cloud Status and Settings. The Partner Cloud settings page allows the user to review those settings in the Partner Cloud Building Block that are used by the Blackboard Store. If configured correctly the settings should look like the screen shot below. The Partner Cloud configuration must be in OK status for the Blackboard Store to function. Decide how the Building Block roles are going to map to your Learn instance roles.this mapping is done when setting up your Partner Cloud, so if you need to adjust this it will be done in the settings for the Partner Cloud Building Block. For more information please refer to the Partner Cloud documentation. Administrator Guide for Blackboard Store and Blackboard Bookshelf Page 10

5. Select the Blackboard Store and Bookshelf Settings and configure the settings. Set the Privacy Settings. The Privacy Settings in the Blackboard Store and the Bookshelf should function whether or not the user information is shared, but the Blackboard Store may require the user to provide additional imformation at the time any transaction is made. It is recommended to share user information unless institution policy prevents doing so. 6. Set the Alerts/Notification Settings. The Scheduled Alert Update frequency is the interval at which the Blackboard Store servers are polled for new notifications. It is recommended to schedule alert updates for 60 minute intervals. 7. Set the schedule to update Publication of Data. This compiles a list of courses within Learn that can be associated with Blackboard Store adoption lists. At the schedule update interval any new course data will be sent to the Blackboard Store. The latest data can be pushed to the Blackboard Store servers using Run Now, typically approximately 8 weeks before the start of each academic term. The Run Now button will report all courses that have not previously been reported to the Blackboard Store. If Send All is selected, Run Now will report all available courses in Learn, even if they have been previously reported. If Blackboard courses are created less than 8 weeks before term start, the scheduled update will push the new course information to Administrator Guide for Blackboard Store and Blackboard Bookshelf Page 11

The Blackboard Store User Interface A new feature to version 1.3 is the ability for students to order from the Blackboard Store before they are actually given a Blackboard Learn account. This process takes place through communications with the institution and the Blackboard Store. Once the store has been notified that a student is enrolled in a course the student will receive an email from the Blackboard Store with a direct link to the Blackboard Store. Ordering Materials 1. Once the student is at the Blackboard Store they have a choice to login with an existing Blackboard Learn account, with an existing Blackboard Store account or create a Blackboard Store account.
