CONSTELLATIONS CHINA LAB Berlin CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 2018 Boost Your Impact Enabling Sustainable Partnerships with China A program by CONSTELLATIONS International funded by Stiftung Mercator In Cooperation with MERICS, TU Berlin s China Center and TechCode Berlin

WHY - Shifting powers, shrinking spaces, huge markets and global sustainability agendas: China is on the move. Cooperation with China is both, fascinating as much as it is challenging. Whether looking through a strategic political lens or an entrepreneurial one, the key question is: How to critically and realistically reflect cooperation interests and strategies, while at the same time continuously innovate and create winwin opportunities despite and across boundaries. WHAT - The CHINA LAB is a unique guided learning program providing a trust space for professionals engaged with China or intending to do so. It offers knowledge in 3 areas: (1) context knowledge (society, economy, politics), (2) cooperation management and project tools and (3) the Who is Who in the stakeholder landscape along with new networks. DATES in 2018: Lab 1 March 16 & 17 Lab 2 May 4 & 5 Open Lab May 4 evening Lab 3 July 6 & 7, 2018 FOR WHOM - Inviting max 10 China interested organizations and their teams /executives across public, private and society sectors. One condition: committment to societal/sustainable purpose beyond business purpose. Whether at the very beginning or right in the middle of a challenging cooperation, participants can use the LAB for development of concrete projects or for reflection on their strategies.

HOW What are the components of the CHINA LAB? A guided Journey Process along which participants get to investigate the relevant context as well as methodologies to work they way forward. -> Tailor-made CHINA LAB tool box inspired by Design Thinking, Theory U, Art of Hosting etc. 3 Lab Sessions /workshops each 1,5 days with physical presence (starting Friday afternoon) -> a personal safe space with peers to co-learn (max 20p.) Project Coaching & Mentoring -> Following an assessment of key challenges at the beginning of the program, each team will benefit from individualized project coaching and mentoring in between workshops, incl. advisory, homework and support for stakeholders interviews. 1 OPEN LAB Evening -> The first evening at the second LAB date will be an open evening with further invited guests and the opportunity for teams to extend their China network and have inspiring encounters.

WHO China Lab Partners and Competence Team Host (concept & implementation): Initiator and Funding: Partner organizations: Katja Hellkötter CHINA LAB program head, lead moderator and projectmentor Katja has 20 years of Europe-China working experience at the interface of business, society and politics and has created numerous projects e.g. more recently CITYMAKERES China-Germany or the China - More than a Market -initiative. Prior jobs included managing the city partnership Hamburg-Shanghai, building-up the eco-services programme the Delegation of German Industry Shanghai, analysing /advising China strategies for the Goethe-Institut and the DLR (BMBF) or acting as Europe-China Cultural Compass Editor-in-Chief. She has a background in Management and China studies and trained in learning theories and practices with Theory U /MIT. Dr. Jing Bartz CHINA LAB Co-mentor and cross cultural advisor Jing is a German-Chinese professional with a distinct intercultural biography. She has a background in literary studies from Beijing University and earned her PhD and MBA on cross-cultural learning and education in Kiel and Leipzig. She has practical work experience with managing ventures for German/European partners in China, e.g. for the Frankfurt Book Fair in Beijing, or a Joint Venture for he French publishing company Hachette. Being based in Hamburg by now, Jing is working as a freelance project curator, advisor and writer mainly in Sino-German cultural and education cooperation. Jing is a decent moderator with a great capacity to connect people, ideas and perspectives across cultures. Contributing CHINALAB experts:. HOW TO PARTICIPATE & APPLY: Thanks to Stiftung Mercator, the CHINA LAB is offered at a cost of EUR 3000,00 per participating organization. Non-profits and public organizations can a apply for a partial scholarship. As a participating organization, you need to commit to the following: TEAM-WORK: Nominate 2-3 participants (team members) for the entire lab. This should include one senior/top manager as a project sponsor (at least available for an assessment interview) and the relevant project manager(s) working on implementation. CASE: Identify and bring a case /a challenge to the lab. This can be either a running China-project or a clear intention for China cooperation. EXPECTATION: Prepare a brief outline of why your organization wants to participate, and what you hope to gain from it. TIME FOR THE JOURNEY: A participation at all LAB dates as well as time for process work in between is required.
