Why Should I be Interested in Geography? One reason why you should know your geography!

Physical and Human Geography

Recall: Geography the study of the earth and all its features and systems and the relationship with humans. This is a very broad definition, we can break this down a little further.

Activity #1 Step #1 You will each be given a reading these are NOT yours to keep, so don t make any marks on them In your notebook take jot notes of important information from your reading remember to include the title. You have 4 minutes to complete this task

Step #2 Find your colour group in the room blue, green, pink, and yellow Sit together as a group and share your notes Using the poster paper and markers, develop a poster that outlines the major points of your reading Print large, be neat and include a title Appoint a spokesperson to read nice and loud! You will have 6 minutes to complete this task

Step #3 Sharing of the posters to the class Two groups will be the same, but did they come up with the same information? Each group has 1 minute to present their poster.

Step #4 Apply what we know now. Take the stack of words from the other day that your group is given and sort these into the two types of geography human and physical When you think you have them pin each one up on the appropriate bulletin board You will have 5 minutes to complete this task

Step #5 Let s review the boards Do all the words fit? Was it easy to decide where each word fits? Is there a connection between physical and human geo? Word sort and reflection hand in

How can the knowledge of geography help inform decision?

Making Informed Decisions Just like knowing the weather outside in the morning will make us dress appropriately for the day, knowledge of geography can help us make even bigger decisions for our life and society. What do you think? In your notebook, write down the title at the top and list at least 3 ways the knowledge of geography could help you in your life.
